Approximate location of SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: A Maritime Exclusion Zone (“MEZ”) with a radius of 20 nautical miles has been established around SCP-XXXX. All civilian vessels and aircraft are restricted from entering the MEZ for any purpose. Military vehicles other than those involved in maintaining the MEZ are also restricted unless expressly permitted by dual authorization from Foundation O5-level personnel and USPACOM.1

Enforcement of the MEZ is accomplished at the subsurface, surface, aerial, and low-earth orbit levels using a variety of assets. An extensive SOSUS network has been installed on the seafloor for passive surveillance, and two ████████-class attack submarines remain on station for active monitoring of any unauthorized subsurface or surface traffic entering the MEZ. In addition, ██ modified 6-meter NOMAD buoys have been moored in the waters surrounding SCP-XXXX to provide aerial radar coverage. A flight of █ F-22/A Raptor tactical aircraft based at █████ ████ █████ ██████-██████ has been placed on permanent standby to respond to violations of the MEZ. One █████-class reconnaissance satellite equipped with an ██████ ██████ detection suite has been placed in geosynchronous LEO is tasked with permanent observation of SCP-XXXX. Finally, one B-2 “Spirit” armed with sixteen B83 1.2 megaton thermonuclear weapons must be kept on station at all times as a contingency in the event that an [REDACTED] event is detected.2

Note: Due to the extensive commitment of resources necessary to maintain containment of SCP-XXXX, the Foundation has entered into a relationship with the United States Department of Defense. In exchange for the use of USN, USAF, and NRO assets to maintain the MEZ, in particular following Incident XXXX-PLUTO, the Foundation has ceded oversight authority to the U.S. Government, working in conjunction with Foundation personnel. See Oversight Archive XXXX.1-XXXX.4 for Joint Oversight records.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an irregularly shaped 15 km2 island located in the South Pacific. The nearest recognized island grouping is the Marquesas chain, though SCP-XXXX is sufficiently removed that it is geographically unrelated. SCP-XXXX does not appear on any charts or maps, and is not claimed by any national government. Its ecosystem is primarily jungle and is typical for the region. There is no current human population on SCP-XXXX, though evidence of historical colonization attempts by pre-European and European settlers exists.

SCP-XXXX/A is a wrecked wooden sailing vessel approximately 45.5 meters long and 11.5 meters wide. It appears to be a man-of-war, consistent with late-18th century French design. It is heavily damaged and shows signs of severe decay. SCP-XXXX/A is located on an outcropping of rock approximately 20 meters off-shore from SCP-XXXX, on the leeward side of the island. Exploration by MTF-B4 revealed no evidence of human remains.

Additionally, MTF-B4 came to the conclusion that SCP-XXXX/A is likely the USS Insurgent, a 40-gun frigate that began life as L’Insurgente in service with the French Navy in 1793. L’Insurgente fought and was captured by the USS Constellation on February 9, 1799 as part of the "Quasi-War" between the United States and Revolutionary France. After repair and refit, she was re-christened the USS Insurgent in service with the young United States Navy and immediately went back into action against France.

On August 8, 1800 under Captain Patrick Fletcher, the Insurgent was dispatched from Hampton Roads, Virginia to the West Indies on an anti-piracy mission. She was never heard from again, and was presumed lost with all hands during a severe thunderstorm that wracked the Caribbean on September 20, 1800. Artifact XXXX/A-1, recovered from SCP-XXXX/A, shed more light on the Insurgent’s eventual fate.

church

One of the sole surviving structures in SCP-XXXX/B

SCP-XXXX/B is a small village complex approximately 0.25 km2 in area located about 0.5 km inland from SCP-XXXX/A. As a whole, it is consistent in layout and design with practices exhibited by early/mid-17th century Spanish colonial settlements. Presently, only two structures remain standing: a presidio (a colonial-era Spanish fort) and a small mission. Scattered wooden and clay debris throughout the complex suggest the historical presence of basic dwellings. Remnants of a retaining wall with a single gate surround the village. There are no signs of occupation within the last 300 years.

SCP-XXXX/C is the oldest and most opaque feature of SCP-XXXX. Located approximately 1.5 km further inland from SCP-XXXX/B, SCP-XXXX/C is a structure whose origin and purpose is unknown. It is a rectangular-shaped building 15 meters long, 10 meters wide, and 10 meters in height. There is a single apparent entry point, which is currently closed. The most striking feature of SCP-XXXX/C is that the entire edifice appears to be constructed from a single piece of building material. Superficial examination suggests that material to be black obsidian, though no samples have been collected to confirm this hypothesis. Save the aforementioned point of entry, SCP-XXXX/C is otherwise featureless. Artifact XXXX/C-1 was recovered on the jungle floor just outside SCP-XXXX/C, and was returned to █████ ██████ following the conclusion of the operation.

Exploration of SCP-XXXX and its associated phenomena is restricted following Incident XXXX-PLUTO. Review of this restriction and accompanying containment procedures is planned for the oversight hearing scheduled for ██/██/20██.
