The Neo Gorgon

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid (Reclassification as safe is currently pending)

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be placed under camera surveillance. SCP researchers assigned to camera surveillance are to receive X- Ray exams once a year in addition to the standard medical checkup. Researchers are to wear sunglasses or other approved vision impairing items avoid making eye contact with SCP-XXXX, even if they are wearing translucent sunglasses or are looking through filtered lens. Any non-opaque viewing gear is to be treated as completely ineffective in preventing a XXXX event. Any and all imagery of SCP-XXXX must be cataloged and stored including both photographs and video. In the event of a anyone demonstrating symptoms corresponding with a XXXX event, the patient must be sedated and transferred to Rehabilitation Zone Phi-28. Patients suspected of experiencing a partial event must be given appropriate medical treatment as detailed in Dr [DATA REDACTED]'s report.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a marble statue. The material has been identified as Carrara Marble and is identical to the samples taken near ██████ Italy. The statue depicts the Gorgon, Medusa, standing on a small platform. The statue is approximately 2 meters tall and its base is 1 meter square with a height of 20 centimeters. Engraved on the platform is the phrase "To Fill the World With Art" Upon making visual contact with SCP-XXXX for a period longer than .06 nanoseconds, viewers will experience a XXXX event. During a XXXX event, the subject's bones will mutate and begin rapid growth. This growth manifests as conic spikes of fibrous bone growth with a length of 3 cm and a width of 1 millimeter. These growths occur over the subject's body. Growths have been observed to grow in hexagonal patterns, with a distance of 3 cm between individual growths. These spikes cease growing once they have penetrated the patient's skin. The bone then mutates again and grows rapidly over the patient's body. This growth will, if unimpeded, grow over the patient's clothes and hair. This resulting bone layer has an approximate average depth of .25 cm. In 83% of patients, the bone structure will cover the patient's vital breathing apparatuses (mouth and nose) in approximately 4 seconds. Every patient of a XXXX event has died due to a combination of a lack of oxygen and carbon dioxide excess within 20 seconds of the event activating. The resulting bone covering has no recorded anomalous effects. The bone growths have the same DNA code as the patient. According to X-rays, he patient's skeleton does not experience structural damage beyond the initial growths.

Research into preventing death through the use of breathing apparatuses is pending authorization.

Addendum: [SCP-XXXX was obtained by an undercover field agent at an auction in [DATA REDACTED] on ██/██/██. According to the agent's report the statue was stored in an opaque box.1
