Item #: SCP-XXX
Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-XXX is to never be monitored via camera of any kind. SCP-XXX is to be kept folded and locked in a non-transparent container small enough that no human could possibly fit in it and is to be locked with a combination lock. When SCP-XXX-1 is present, SCP-XXX is to be kept rolled and tied or folded at all times in an appropriate locked container away from cameras. If SCP-XXX-1 is not present, SCP-XXX is to be secured to a door frame or horizontal pole until SCP-XXX-1 manifests and then taken down and folded and locked in an appropriate container. SCP-XXX-1 is then to be restrained in a container with no less than 3 layers of glass and steel in an alternating configuration with an inner layer of glass. Under no circumstance is one SCP-XXX to be placed in another SCP-XXX. Violators are to be terminated immediately. No D-Class personnel are to have access to SCP-XXX at any time unless as specified for testing purposes.

Description:

SCP-XXX is a black velvet cloth measuring 1 meter square. The cloth has the trademark velvet plush on both sides and all attempts to “split” the cloth to reveal the back-side will fail as it is a single sheet. It is otherwise velvet, reacting as and weighing what a 1 meter square section of velvet cloth should. SCP-XXX reflects almost no light and is cool to touch although all attempts to measure the temperature of SCP-XXX will show that it is exactly the same temperature as the item or items it touches.

The cloth appears to be indestructible except under certain circumstances (See experiment logs – XXX-15). When stretched to its full size and attached to any surface, SCP-XXX-1 will appear within five to fifteen minutes and attempt to pull the closest or most available person into the cloth at which point another cloth, identical to the first, will fall out of the first. The cloth attaches by means as yet undiscovered and need not be attached to a wall, floor, or otherwise flat surface. Attaching it to a pole or doorframe will still allow SCP-XXX-1 to manifest.

SCP-XXX-1 appears as an average androgynous humanoid with no hair and possesses limited intelligence and is capable of performing simple tasks such as opening doors, moving objects, and taking cover to protect itself or its victim. Although it is not inherently violent, it is extremely capable of strategically analyzing any tactical situation in order to safely return to its cloth with its victim. In any situation where it cannot find an optimally safe return path, it will take the safest possible route. It also has the capacity to enter a monitor with its victim and exit the camera. During this time, if the camera is recording, the video will turn black and numerous screams will be heard in the audio. When multiple SCP-XXXs are posted, multiple SCP-XXX-1 instances will manifest and can enter one SCP-XXX and exit from another but ultimately can only stay in the SCP-XXX cloth of origin. SCP-XXX-1 has more strength than is readily apparent but is not overly strong. While manifested, SCP-XXX-1 appears to not need to breathe or eat. In cases where lethal force has been used against SCP-XXX-1, it does not bleed and continues to function normally despite damage unless it loses a limb. If completely destroyed, another SCP-XXX-1 will manifest from the same cloth implying that destruction returns it to its point of origin.

When SCP-XXX-1 manifests, it will climb out of the cloth as though it were a hole of the same dimensions and shape. If the cloth is attached to something in such a way that SCP-XXX-1 is too large to climb through (such as wrapped around a pole), SCP-XXX-1 will instead attempt to reach through to pull someone into the cloth, tearing and breaking the victim so that it will fit if possible and necessary. If SCP-XXX-1 is successful in touching a person, that person will become paralyzed and unresponsive for approximately 15 hours. After approximately 15 hours have passed, the victim will regain mobility but will not be able to communicate in any form for three days but will still understand spoken and written communication and can otherwise perform tasks normally. However, the victim appears to prefer dark environments for approximately three weeks. More interestingly, the victim will not need to consume nourishment of any kind for those three weeks. Attempting to eat causes the victim to become violently ill. Victims have full memory of their contact with SCP-XXX-1 and all claim that it attempts to mentally speak with them in whispers in an unknown language.

When SCP-XXX-1 has acquired a victim, it will immediately attempt to return to the SCP-XXX of origin using the shortest and safest possible route. If SCP-XXX-1 observes SCP-XXX through a camera, it has the capacity of entering through the monitor and exiting the camera along with the victim.

If SCP-XXX-1 manages to pull a victim into SCP-XXX, that person disappears instantly and another cloth identical to SCP-XXX will fall from SCP-XXX and functions identically. For this reason, only D-Class personnel are to be used in future experiments with SCP-XXX.

Recovery:

SCP-XXX was discovered in a haunted house in Savannah, Georgia after several reports of missing people. The Foundation arrived and was found when a field investigator leaned against a wall only to fall into the cloth and promptly disappeared. As a result, a total of ██ instances of SCP-XXX were recovered.

Agent Jost: Okay, let’s start by placing it on the table and examining the surface…. There we go, ████, unfold that corner for me, would you? …. Thank you.
[several seconds pass]
Agent Jost Okay, its velvet, no doubt about it but it looks like it has two sheets but… sewn together but… there’s no seam.
Agent Paul: [indistinguishable]
Agent Jost Yeah, hand me that razor there, would you? Thanks. Okay, making a cut…. Strange. Doesn’t feel like I’m cutting cloth. More like I’m cutting the table but there’s no cut in the cloth. From now on, no one is to put one cloth into another. I will personally terminate anyone who tries. We had a hell of a time excavating that wing and I won’t go through that again. – Dr. ███████
