Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: When not in use, SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a locked 80 cm x 90 cm x 90 cm, steel box at Site ██. Key for the safe may be obtained via permissions from Dr. Fitzgerald. Experiments on SCP-XXXX should be no longer than one month and 2 weeks.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a standard polyester/cotton blend pillow. The object is stuffed with double down and its slip is decorated with sheet music from “Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata”. Object plays music when a person attempts to sleep on the pillow.

On ██/██/2008 the object was bought by Professor █████, from The University of ████████, via [DATA REDACTED] Catalog. The object was brought to the Foundation's attention after Incident Tritone-A. Professor █████ went through extensive psychiatric care, was found to be heavily sleep deprived, and suffering from hallucinations.

Professor █████ said that she had not had a good night's rest for almost 2 months and had been hearing "Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata" every night before sleep. Class B amnesiacs were administered to Professor █████, her students effected by Incident Tritone-A and psychologists. Agents raiding Professor █████'s condo, retrieved the pillow with said music slip. In testing, lobes in the brain associated with hearing, indicated that the subject was hearing music. The subject was entering Sleep Onset when music was indicated.

The object was brought into Foundation custody on ██/██/2008.

Further testing has shown that no sapient life around the user can hear "Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata". Anomalous effects continue throughout all stages of sleep except for Rapid Eye Movement, or REM, sleep. REM Sleep is not shown to occur while under the anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX. Subjects must be woken up.

Long term subject's of SCP-XXXX show signs of anxiousness, hallucinations, depression, and sleep deprivation. Effects from SCP-XXXX are “cured” by allowing subject to sleep on an ordinary pillow.

Addendum-1: SCP-XXXX was separated and tested individually. SCP-XXXX-1, the pillow, and SCP-XXXX-2, the slip. SCP-XXXX-1 maintained the anomalous effect, but only during Sleep Onset. When subjects entered Deep Sleep, effect ceased. SCP-XXXX-2 maintained anomalous effect, but only at the onset of Deep Sleep. When the brain entered Light Sleep, music would decrease in intensity until being fully absent. Researchers should take note that SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXXX-2 do not interfere with user’s REM sleep, and user can wake up normally.

Addendum-2: D- 5███, deaf, was studied with SCP-XXXX. Subject was not allowed to see the pillow case, in case of visual contaminant. Subject was observed under EEG; the brainwaves identified as normally expected while testing the object. Hearing centers of the brain still showed activity, even though the subject was completely deaf. Visual centers in the brain showed slight activity. Upon being woken, subject signed that they had seen a pattern of strange, unknown colors. The description of the patterns were similar to the activity seen in the the hearing and visual centers of the brain and musical notation of Beethoven's piece.

Addendum-3: After Colorless-Tritone Incident-1 with D-class personal; [DATA REDACTED], who had been exposed to SCP-XXXX over a period of 3 months [extended period of life from D-class was authorized by O5-██], was diagnosed with Sporadic Fatal Insomnia. D-████ terminated self.

Addendum-4: D- 1███, was exposed to SCP-XXXX for a week longer than the D-class involved in Colorless-Tritone Incident-1. D-1████ was administered Class B amnesiacs at the 3 month mark. D-1████ still developed Sporadic Fatal Insomnia at the benchmark. Sleeping aides were administered to D-1████ to force sleep. D-1████ fell into a coma, and was terminated a week later. More testing might show that the sleeping aides and Sporadic Fatal Insomnia combination led to coma.

We don't have the resources to keep D-class alive while in a coma. Limit testing to 1 month and 2 weeks. -Dr. ████████
