SCP-XXXX at use, with binary numbers from 18 to 35 visible

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept at a standard safe at Site-██, with the passcode to be changed on a weekly basis, with only Dr. █████ and senior staff at Site-██ knowing the passcode. Due to SCP-XXXX’s memetic effects, no personnel are to read this document, read the supplementary documents or view any images of SCP-XXXX within 1km proximity of the item. Any personnel requesting to experiment with SCP-XXXX is to be put through a psychological evaluation beforehand. If symptoms of Phase 1 compulsion are detected, the subject is to be held in quarantine for two weeks, after which another psychological evaluation is to be applied. Only D-Class personnel is allowed to use SCP-XXXX. Any D-Class personnel transitioning to Phase 3 compulsion effects of SCP-XXXX are to be reported immediately for additional testing of the subject’s mental state.

Description: On the outside, SCP-XXXX appears to be a regular notebook. It has been counted to have ███ pages from the outside. However, attempts to count the pages of SCP-XXXX when open have failed, as after 128 pages have been turned over to the other side, any other pages being turned will result in the oldest page turned to disappear and reappear as the last page of the notebook.
Any person viewing SCP-XXXX, reading of it, or hearing about the object’s properties within 1km proximity of the object will enter a state of compulsion to use it. The phases of compulsion are listed below.

Phase 1: Lasts one hour after initial compulsion. Subject will tell others about the object, thus infecting them with the compulsion. The subject will vocalize his request to use the item, which is also infectious. If allowed to use SCP-XXXX, subjects will start scribbling what appears to be binary numbers, starting from 1, in boxes. Why this is drawn is unknown, and all scribblings disappear after a page has been turned. Subjects will still comply with commands as long as they are allowed to use the object.

Phase 2: Lasts from one hour to 24 hours after initial compulsion. Subjects will stop eating and sleeping, only continuing to scribble binary numbers in boxes. Subjects cease to comply with rules. If SCP-XXXX is taken away, the subject with react violently.

Phase 3: Lasts from 24 hours to 72 hours after initial compulsion. Subjects will stop using SCP-XXXX, but instead start scribbling on their own skin. If other tools are taken away, subjects will use their nails and teeth. Almost all test subjects expired at this point.

Phase 4: Only one test subject had progressed this far. Scribbling of the binary numbers started appearing on the subject’s skin by itself, which then progressed to glow and [DATA EXPUNGED], which caused ██ casualties and the containment breach of SCP-███ and SCP-███. No subjects are to be allowed to progress into this stage.

Analysis of SCP-XXXX’s pages indicate that SCP-XXXX’s pages are not made of paper but instead made of asbestos, wood flour and [REDACTED]. Experiments with other pages created with the ingredients are ongoing.

Addendum XXXX-1: Attempts to damage SCP-XXXX have thus far failed, as any personnel attempting to destroy SCP-XXXX will immediately enter Phase 3 compulsion. No further attempts to damage SCP-XXXX is to be made unless approved by the site director.
