About the Author

Hello, I'm ModulumModulum. I'm a writer and content creator for the SCP Foundation wiki and community. I don't really have much to say in the way of my personal life, so here's a short profile/portfolio thing about my work on the wiki.

I created /r/SCPDeclassified in late May of 2017, after a number of spontaneous SCP essays I did on the /r/SCP subreddit gained me a bit of a reputation in the community. I originally started SCPDeclassified as a simple archive or blog for my occasional explanations, but it grew much more quickly into something a lot bigger than I ever would have imagined. Our SCP analyses and explanations have a huge audience among the Foundation comunity, and I've built up a team of nearly a dozen different contributors and writers (all of whom are more prolific and successful than me.)

I have written long-form explanations on /r/SCPDeclassified about the following wiki articles so far:

On the wiki, I write largely science fiction, horror, or usually an overambitious mixture of the two. I take cues from common elements of sci-fi in my works, but I do my best to remix them into something that feels unique and moving. Usually, I start off by simply thinking of an emotion I want to evoke, like lost hope or mental ambivalence, or a cool concept I want to explore, like the meaning of ghosts or the Fermi paradox. Then I just sort of go down the rabbit hole, finding new ideas that I utilize along the way, trying to take that emotion or concept and turn it into a work that does that ideal justice.

As such, it usually takes me a very long time to write something, as I find myself going back and rethinking elements, adding new follow-ups, what-ifs, and imagery. My articles tend to be quite lengthy and narrative-based, as each of my works is in a sense a single story in the vein of Lovecraft or Clarke. Ultimately, I consider my SCPs to be thought-provoking short stories in the SCP format.

You can find me on the IRC as Modulum83, and on Discord as Modulum#0862.
