SCP-XXXX in containment

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a standard canine housing unit at Site 73. Simultaneous access for two or more individuals is available to all personnel with Level 2 clearance and above. Individual access is limited to researchers assigned to SCP-XXXX unless granted authorization by project lead Dr. Jenner.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a mixed-breed female dog between 11 and 13 years old. Breed testing has been inconclusive but indicates Laborador retriever and German shorthaired pointer descent. SCP-XXXX has been diagnosed with advanced arthritis and early stage cataracts. Veterinary staff have prescribed carprofen to alleviate symptoms. SCP-XXXX has consistently behaved in a docile and friendly manner with researchers and test subjects, but displays anxiety when exposed to handled cleaning implements such as brooms or mops.

Anomalous properties manifest when a single human interacts with SCP-XXXX in close proximity for a minimum of six minutes. The duration of contact and degree of isolation required for effects to appear is inconsistent, but appears to be dependent on the attention and focus of SCP-XXXX.

Addendum:
SCP-XXXX was recovered with a wooden box containing a worn stuffed rabbit, two collars, one rope leash and an envelope labeled "TO THE FOUNDATION." The attached letter was contained within the envelope.

To whom it may concern,

If you are reading this, I am dead. There's no tragedy here. Old men die and there is no one left to mourn my passing. No one, that is to say, except the reason you are reading this letter: Rosie. I don't know how she became the way she is, but I believe with absolute certainty that she did it for me. Now that I'm gone, there is no one left to look after her. I have no leverage, no valuables or favors to trade. I'm entrusting you with my only friend in the world because I cannot die with the thought that she'll be alone and at the mercy of the first person to recognize just how special a girl she really is. Please honor the last request of a broken man. Keep my smelly old dog safe.

Sincerely,

J. Worthington
