Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 1 L sealed glass ampoule surrounded by copper wool in a steel container 1 L sealed stainless steel container within a sterile room in Site-76.

The quantity of SCP-XXXX in storage should never exceed 500 g unless produced temporarily during testing. Excess SCP-XXXX is to be disposed by incineration in a controlled environment. All smoke and gasses produced in combustion must be collected and passed through furnace a second time. Incineration is complete when there are no more solids in the furnace.

Extreme care should be taken to keep SCP-XXXX from being released into the environment. Such an event would have disastrous effects on all forms of life.

SCP-XXXX-A is a safe object and can be kept in a storage locker.

Any information on the location of Dr. Kennedy Johnson should be immediately reported to Foundation officials.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a black, plastic-like organic polymer that will spontaneously react with other organic substances that it contacts to grow the polymer. Many of the reactions SCP-XXX undergoes appear to be thermodynamically unfavorable. The mechanism through which these reactions occur is unknown

Mass spectroscopy and NMR data reveal that SCP-XXXX is primarily composed of hydrocarbon chains with a variety of function groups joining the chains. Oxygen and nitrogen containing functional groups are most prevalent followed by a small number of sulfur and phosphorous containing functional groups and various trace elements. The chemical composition varies slightly across a sample of SCP-XXXX indicating that it can construct novel mechanisms that also have the ability to decompose organic molecules and replicate itself.

SCP-XXXX-A is a textbook entitled Carbon and Silicon Lifeforms: The How-To Guide Part I. The book has no publication information nor author and is 2105 pages long. There are 12 chapters that cover the creation of carbon or silicon based lifeforms in a laboratory setting. The end of each chapter includes several procedures demonstrating the concepts laid out in the chapter. Most procedures are very complicated and make use of complex machinery not found in any laboratory on Earth. None of the procedures have been performed to this date. It is speculated that SCP-XXXX was created through a process loosely based off Procedure-██ in the textbook.

The end of the textbook is an advertisement for Carbon and Silicon Lifeforms: The How-To Guide Part II which, according to the advertisement, begins to introduce the creation of intelligent lifeforms. The advertisement says to contact the number █-███-████-█-████ for more information. Nothing is known about the number or how to contact it.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was first created by ██████ ████████ research scientist, Dr. Kennedy Johnson on ██/██/2015. According to the administrator of the research facility, Johnson was researching new forms of environmentally friendly plastics. The Foundation was alerted about SCP-XXXX when Johnson’s lab assistant died and a medical examiner found a black substance throughout his lungs. The lab assistant most likely came in contact with SCP-XXXX during routine glassware cleaning. Johnson’s lab was thoroughly cleaned to ensure SCP-XXXX was completely removed from the room. All of Johnson’s papers were confiscated including SCP-XXXX-A. Unfortunately his laboratory journal was not found and is likely still in his possession.

Kennedy Johnson was a prodigious chemist hired by the Ohio branch of ██████ ████████ in 2011 and was responsible for the invention of several new plastics currently used for military purposes. According to the administrator of research, in 2014 Johnson started to talk about a "huge project that would rock the science world" that he was working on but never went into details of what it was. Johnson's colleagues noted that a few months prior to the incident he started to act shady and rarely left his laboratory or talked to anyone. No employees at ██████ ████████ knew of the existence of SCP-XXXX-A.

After the creation of SCP-XXXX Johnson never returned to ██████ ████████ and his whereabouts are unknown.

Addendum: Recent mass spectroscopy tests have revealed that the silicon content of SCP-XXXX has increased significantly since containment. SCP-XXXX is most likely leaching silicon from the glass ampoule it is contained in and forming silicon polymers. SCP-XXXX should be stored in a stainless steel container and weekly tests should be carried out to see if the chemical composition is affected.

Incident XXXX-A: On ██/██/2017 a body was discovered in the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah by a lone tourist. The body had been completely transformed into SCP-XXXX. The tourist claimed to have seen a man with a blue van parked by interstate I-80 rolling a large metal container into the salt flats. A van was found several days later abandoned outside Elko, Nevada with a metal container matching the tourist’s description. No traces of SCP-XXXX were found nor anything indicating Johnson's location.
