Draft for An Anomalous Log of Objects

rating: 0+x

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid (reclassified from safe following Incident XXXX-A)

Special Containment Procedures:

SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a modified high value storage locker in Site XX. SCP-XXXX is to be kept empty of papers at all time, and all papers that have come into contact with SCP-XXXX, even those with designs not known to trigger its anomalous effect, are to be destroyed following standard protocol for SCP-XXXX-1 instances.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 are to be incinerated completely, with the ashes deposited in a storage unit containing the ashes of no less than 15 other SCP-XXXX-1 instances if possible. Fuel and a source of ignition capable of incinerating at least 4000 kg of paper (about 800,000 sheets of standard foundation copy paper) are to be kept on the premises, currently provided by Site XX's trash incinerator.

In the event of a suspected containment breach, containment personnel are to gather all papers on site containing descriptions of objects and proceed to ensure total incineration of all papers. If it is not possible to conduct such a burn safely, all black permanent markers on site are to be commandeered and used to mark out the entirety of the text on the papers as a temporary containment measure.

Tested on SCP-XXXX may be conducted following approval of specific testing protocols by at least 2 5 level 2 level 4 (changed following incident XXXX-A) researchers. A digital document known to be capable of triggering SCP-XXXX's effect is to be kept in a flash drive held by Site Director Roberts.

Following Incident XXXX-A, SCP-XXXX is to be kept on a high precision digital scale inside its containment locker, with an alarm set to go off if the weight of SCP-XXXX changes. If a page insertion event is detected, any inserted pages are to be immediately and completely incinerated without hesitation. Entries on any inserted pages are not to be inspected or recorded before incineration.

Description:

SCP-XXXX is a shipping logbook consisting of a three ring binder of the type used by the [Redacted] shipping corporation during the early part of the 20th century. When a sheet of paper matching the description of the pages intended for use in SCP-XXXX is inserted into its bindings, that sheet then gains a mild reality altering effect and becomes an instance of SCP-XXXX-1. Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 will retain all reality alterations developed when removed from SCP-XXXX, but will not develop new alterations once removed.

Once a description of an object is entered into an active SCP-XXXX-1, the object described in the entry1 becomes an instance of SCP-XXXX-2 after a delay of exactly ███ seconds. Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 have anomalous properties relating to elements of valid2 descriptions of the object (see testing log for examples). Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are invariably normally benign (see addendum) and requiring only minimal containment.

Instances of SCP-XXXX-2 may be effectively neutralized by making the log entry describing them unreadable. The reduction in the strength of the anomaly generated has shown to be loosely proportional to the increase in the difficulty of reading the entry. It is currently predicted that instances remain anomalous even after their apparent destruction, and that effective destruction of the log entry only serves to make the anomalies negligible, however testing this hypothesis is currently beyond our capabilities. The current procedure of incinerating instances of SCP-XXXX-1 is based on this theory, and may be replaced as appropriate in light of further evidence.
