Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Neutralized Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: The area containing the anomaly has been purchased by a Foundation front company, designated Site-756µ, and a cover structure resembling an industrial warehouse erected around it. Site-756µ is surrounded by a barbed-wire fence, with only one door providing entry into the anomaly zone. Two (2) guards are to be posted to protect and guard the enclosure at all times. Approaching civilians are to be turned back under threat of prosecution, or captured by force and dosed with class C amnesiacs if they do not comply. During designated activation days, the amount of guards, now armed, patrolling the enclosure shall be increased to ten (10). The ground under the anomaly zone has been filled in with cement. Anomaly has stopped appearing. SCP-XXXX designated Neutralized The cement has been removed. Previous containment procedures are in force until further notice.

Description: SCP-4567 is an area of land fifty (50) square meters in size, consisting of dirt and fertile soil, covered by grass and formerly used on grazing, on a farmland on the outskirts of the village of ████████ near the city of ██████, █████. Every seventh and twenty-second day of every month, the anomaly activates. From sunrise to sunset on that day, regardless of cloud cover, roof erected atop the anomaly zone or other such factors, hundreds of incorporeal, visual effects resembling small, thin yet abnormally long three-dimensional glowing earthworms appear, move about in squirming or 'snaking' motions, often vanishing or appearing abruptly. With a margin of error of five minutes, three hours before sunset, the images lose clear three-dimensional form. Instead, flashing, chaotically appearing glowing slices, strings and filaments, occasionally expanding and contracting rhythmically before vanishing entirely, a phenomenon described by some researchers as 'unsettling'. It is theorized these images are three-dimensional representations of movement by higher-dimensional beings through our universe. At sunset, regardless of the level of activity and numbers of images visible, all images vanish and the anomaly deactivates.

Due to the similarity of the images to common earthworms (Lumbricus terrestris), during an activation event a hole one meter deep was dug in the corner of the structure. revealing an abnormally large amount of burrowing earthworms. Sensitive equipment using technology derived from SCP-███ was brought to the place and detected thousands of earthworms burrowing under the soil of SCP-XXXX during activation events, moving abnormally fast and in sync with all others, notably never crossing tunnels made by other worms despite the statistical improbability and the lack of intelligence of earthworms for co-ordinated action. Earthworms captured from the soil show no anomalous properties as far as has been found, and move normally unless in the soil of SCP-XXXX during active phase. These earthworms enter the area from all directions of surrounding soil at sunrise on activation days, and leave at sunset, becoming non-anomalous earthworms after leaving the anomalous area. When the anomaly is inactive, no earthworms of any kind are found anywhere in the soil of the anomalous area, though typical numbers of earthworms inhabit surrounding fields.

Incident 4567-2B: Level 1 researcher ███, suffering from work-related exhaustion, which was thought to be relatively mild, was assigned to SCP-XXXX due to its seemingly benign and predictable nature. After few months of uneventful observation he was heard muttering "I'll deal with it like we should and we can all go home." Bypassing the authority of the site managing researcher, ███ ordered the staff to excavate the dirt and ground under the cover structure, and had the area filled in with cement. Though ███ was severely reprimanded and disciplined for crass violations of duty and procedure, the visual anomaly failed to appear the following activation day, and for a month thereafter. The anomaly was classified as neutralized. However, at sunrise next Tuesday, determined to be exactly two months after the site was filled with cement, notably not a previously determined activation day, the visual anomaly began to appear in over ██ places in the nearby village of ████████ and surrounding fields, requiring the Foundation to quarantine the village under the pretense of a disease outbreak and begin to administer class-B amnestics to the population. When new containment procedures were being designed, incident 8R happened on the following day.

Incident 4567-8R: On ██.██.2014 as the guards opened the doors of the Site-756µ to perform their inspection, they found hundreds of deceased earthworms lying on the cement, despite there being no obvious ways for earthworms to enter the structure, and no holes of required size visible on the cement. The worms had expired forming shapes resembling crude but readable words, as follow:

please return holy soil
please let we worship we place
or we worship you place
prefer we place
it holy place
peace

After discussion, the cement was removed and the previous dirt and soil returned into Site-756µ. Anomalous events failed to appear in the village of ████████ the following day or thereafter. During next activation day, the anomalous effects resumed as previously described behind the walls of the cover structure. Containment procedures retained.
