Pretendo Project

THE LIST

(Using my powers of project's head to make this, for the sake of not mixing notes with to-do-stuff. Add your name if you are interested in that task and think you are able to, keep in mind the urgency level. ~Aleph A)

  • Fighting portraits: Images we see when fighting. We need it ASAP, as we cannot make sprites without them, and as such cannot start mapping.
    • [Add here]
  • Talking portraits: Images we see when important characters speak. The more we have, the more immersive the game is. We don't need it right now, as we can add them later, though the sooner, the better.
    • [Add here]
  • Sprites: Little animated images that compose 90% of the game outside combat. We can't map without them, so we need them ASAP.
    • QuantumApples
  • Map desing: Where stuff is in the map and what it does.
    • Aleph_A
    • [Add here]
  • Music: Sound tracks. Background music. Sound effects.
    • QuantumApples, although Decibelle could do it
  • Plot: The plot.

LURKD NOTES

I'm just here as a consultant. Aleph_A is the project head.

Alright people, how a project page works. First off, keep your ideas condensed, if you need to add details use a collapsible. Make sure you ask questions in parentheses followed by your name so we know who asked it. Delete only when it's no longer relevant. Also, just go nuts but try to keep it all organized.

Aleph_A, this would be a great spot to add a list of tasks that need to be done and for people to sign up for said tasks. (Gotcha covered, mate ~ Aleph A)

ALEPH_A NOTES

The Great and Wonderful Plot

Introduction to the world of Pondania

The Water Fleas ruled the land of Pondania during a golden age of glory and technological and magical development. A long time ago, the evil Dark Master Hydralord overthrew the Water Fleas' civilization with the power of the Cocoon of Xenophobia, turning all species against each other, allowing his Hydras to take their place at the top of the food chain, as the other, weaker species, couldn't do anything to face him on their own.

Some time later, the Tardigrade Kingdom is founded, far from the Hydras Nest. Thanks to the use of a trained military and disciplined sorcerers, the Kingdom became a bastion of hope and order in the chaotic world of Pondania.

A very short time ago, to teach the Tardigrades a lesson, the Hydralord attacked suddenly their land and kidnapped the princess. To save her, her father has summoned the descendant of an ancient Tardigrade hero, bearer of the contract with the Time Protist, who is bonded to him for life, and allows him to create a safe moment of time-space where his consciousness will come back if he dies, while shouting annoying and not-so-helpful advice.

Present day, present time: the apprentice of the head wizard of the Kingdom, our yet nameless protagonist, discovers his lineage and is tasked to save the princess and, if possible, destroy the Hydralord.

Because he is…

The Tardigrade Wizard!

The story behind the game
Warning: You are entering into an area irradiated by high levels of spoilers. Entering here will invariably cause a reduction of the enjoyability of the game.

A mysterious digital life form managed to enter into a game of SCP-591 "Pretendo Entertainment System", taking advantage of the corruption of the game to hide from any attempt of the Foundation's operatives to find it and put it in containment. Due to the anomalous effects of 591, the D-Class personnel designated D-12934 was tasked to play the game, making it real in the process, and find the anomaly, allowing the research team to localize it and capture it.

But the anomaly is tricky and savvy of the world of videogames, so finding it will not be an easy task. And even D-12934 manages to discover its lair, it will not go down easily.

And maybe this is not the only game corrupted by it.

The Totally Awesome Characters

The Actors and Actresses

  • The Protagonist: Our main character and the only guy we control during the whole game. Descendant of a great hero, apprentice of the Great Wizard of the Tardigrade Kingdom and childhood friend of the Heroine of Pondania (which is totally an official title). With his carefree nature and adamant determination, is tasked to rescue the Princess and destroy the ancient and powerful evil that threatens the land since its very origins. As he is very talented with all types of magic, it depends to the player whether he becomes an indestructible shield of high defense, a ruthless heavy hitter of high magic damage, a tricky damage over the time status effects dealer, or a life eating healer.
  • The Heroine: She is not the main character, but the badassest of all. Champion of the Kingdom, and the most powerful tank in the game, she guides you at the very begining to ensure you don't die. Hotblooded and jolly, with a very optimistic look of the world and the desire of making Pondania a place of justice and peace. Later she is part of the Boss Rush at the true final level. (Oh, spoilers!)
  • The Wizard: High Wizard of the Kingdom, Sorcerer Supreme of Pondania and other several long titles are what your master is called. Right hand of the King, and most powerful mage alive, he ensures that the peace of the Kingdom does not break, and trains the bearer of the Time Protist to be a servant of the public's well being. He is the very true final boss of the game, as he desires to bring down the monarchy and place a democratic government (the fact that he is right is important later). He is a terrible damage dealer, a brutal status effects giver, and the only character in-game capable of using anti-magic until the new game+.
  • The General: Leader of the Kingdom's army and most powerful warrior around. He serves as the cool big bro of the protegonaist early in the game and later joins you at the middle of the game to siege the Hydralord's castle. At the end is part of thw Boss Rush along with the Heroine and the Wizard. Has brutal nuking attacks as well as tons of health and stuns like nobody can.
  • The King: Young and unwise, the King of the Tardigrades is beloved by his good looks and speechs, but once his daughter is kidnapped without trouble his incompetence starts showing. If it weren't by the Wizard he would probably had burnt down the whole capital. Sadly, as the Wizard cannot stand his stupidity anymore, he eventually gets killed in the revolution. As you can see, it is no more than a plot device and comic relief. (Which later is a plot point).
  • The Time Protist: Na'vi's ancestor (descendant?). She is a small ball of light who makes you company, gives vague advice and snarky comments during your journey. And is the only save point in the whole game, so you better start loving her.
  • The Princess: The bratty teenage daughter of the King. Spoiled and egoistical, as well as a total tsudere, she is the damsel in distress during the first fourth of the game. Once you met her, though, you realize she didn't even needed you to beat her captors to submission, as is the best DPS in the whole game, capable of excellent armor-piercering attacks. For some reason your character eventually fell for her and make her the queen.
  • The Hydralord: The guy you are led to believe is the true evil of the world. Selfish, social darwinist, sociopathic, and a total gentleman, the Hydralord is one of the biggest challenges in the game. Even if he is not the true final boss, his boss fight will make you cringe at every second, as he is the best balanced character in the game, no design flaws, no counter strategy.
  • The Maintenance Guy: At one point of the game you must cross a path between two "mountains". Here you find a very glitchy area hampering your way and this guy repairs it. He claims to be a Dr. W employee, working to ensure that the game works without glitches. In fact, he is the anomaly you, the D-Class playing the game, must find. You don't realize this until the new game+.
  • The Glitch: When you win the game, your "Congratulations!" screen glitchs out, leaving only a creature speaking to you, the player. Calling you out for your stupidity, for allowing a whole civilization fall, for murdering hordes of cute little things without second thoughts for your mere enjoyment, etc. In the new game+ you must kill it to capture the anomaly. But it is part of the game? It is part of the anomaly? Or something darker? (I really don't know, better have a sequel hook left hanging, am I right?).

The Guys You Will Kill Without Doubt
(List is yet incomplete and subject to changes. ~Aleph A)

  • Nematode:
    • Normal Nematode: Weak against everything. Strong against nothing. A bothersome pest that you can curbstomp even in early levels. Low threat.
    • Purple Nematode: Slightly stronger than the Normal Nematode. Is capable of using Virus-type magic. Low threat.
    • Blue Nematode: Again, slightly stronger than the Normal Nematode. Is capable of using Water-type magic. Low threat
    • Green Nematode: You get it, stronger than the Normal one. Is capable of Algae-type magic. Low threat
    • Grey Nematode: Read above. Is capable of Fungi-type magic. Low threat
    • Mega Nematode: A lot stronger than any of the aforementioned. A lot. Consider it a bonus critter, like the Metal Slime, or a high level mook. Very high threat.
    • The Nematode: Bonus boss. A damage sponge capable of strong physical attacks. Big Boss Class Threat.
  • Macrothrix: Pretty weak enemy, but can be troublesome on early levels. Capable of inflicting status effects and debuffing as well as dealing solid damage. Low/Medium threat.
  • Cypris: Big and sturdy. Not very deadly, but it will be a pain to kill, making you lose resources you will need later. Medium threat.
  • Chaetonotus: The strongest normal beast. Resists a lot of damage and deals even more. High threat.
  • Rotifer:
    • Rotifer Warrior: Baseline mook. No specialties and you will fight a lot of them. Low/Medium threat.
    • Rotifer Mage/Druid: Magic mook. Weak against physicals attacks. Medium/Low threat.
    • Rotifer Knight/Soldier: Elite mook. Strong against both magic and physical attacks. Medium/High threat.
  • Cyclops:
    • Cyclops Soldier: Your ogre. Tough and slow. Medium threat.
    • Cyclops Warlock: Add to your ogre some high damage magic. Medium/High threat.
    • Cyclops Matriarch: And now, add the ability to spawn other ogres. High/Very high threat.
  • Daphnia:
    • Daphnia Engineer: Low HP, high damage and lots of status effects. Drops sweet, sweet loot. Medium threat.
    • Daphnia Artillery Master: Stronger than the last one. Maybe a miniboss (not sure about this one). High threat.
  • Tardigrade:
    • Will add later, list is damn long.
    • (Don't forget the time protist! ~LurkD)

DR. HYSTERIA NOTES

TOTALLY NOT QUANTUMAPPLE'S NOTES

Please delete my old files, they're taking up space. -Apples

Decibelle

Like I said, I can do music, but it's easier for me to make music when there's sections that I can actually see and/or play. Otherwise, you'd have to describe what you want for each part of the game (or each planned track to sound like), and I can try to work to that, though it might not be an exact match to what you're thinking of.

Sirpudding's notes

I can definitely do some maps and some of the dungeon/encounter design. I'll try to take a look at RPG Maker this week and see if I can import from my cartography software or not.

(A bestiary was mentioned. Is that done? Can I see it? Can I add to it if I want to while doing dungeons?) - sirpudding
(Done, see my notes ~ Aleph A)

Loiterer's Notes

I'm having a mess around with some character/ monster designs. Is the game going to be 2d platformer or more like the Zelda games? Top-down I think it is. Just wondering how many angles you'd like to see the things from.

Also will put up any on-going/ finished designs in a collapsible.

(Looks great! This is exactly what I am looking for. Not too detailed, a little cartoony but badass. Sorry for the late response btw. ~Aleph)
