SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Trays containing the mycelium of SCP-XXXX are to be kept sealed, at a constant temperature of 36°C within a Faraday cage. Level 1 personnel and above are to wear Level A hazmat suits when opening, examining, or otherwise handling the trays. Replacement of growth culture is to occur once weekly, with new cerebral and spinal tissue to be obtained from porcine or murine sources. Under no circumstances should the culture contain human cerebral tissue.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a parasitic fungus, of the family Ophiocordycipitaceae (proposed name: O. delphii) which infects humans via inhaled airborne spores and takes residence in the brain of its host. New hosts are acquired by imbuing the telepathic ability of voice projection upon its host, who then calls to an uninfected human and spreads by growing from the mouth of its original host, into the mouth and lungs of the new host.

The telepathic abilities bestowed by SCP-XXXX are believed to be a side effect of the relatively high conductivity of the fungus, which amplify existing neural signals, resulting in a stronger and larger electromagnetic field emitted by the brain than usual. This could influence other nearby cerebral fields, inducing currents in them, which are perceived by those affected to be voices.

Life-cycle: Inhaled spores infect the lining of the lungs and travel via the blood and cerebrospinal fluid to the host's brain. There, the fungus extends hyphae into the neurons of the brain, which does not kill the neurons, but intimately connects the fungus to the host. This relationship makes limited telepathy possible for the the host. The telepathy is used to call an uninfected person to the host, who is then infected by the fungus rapidly growing hyphae into their mouth and lungs.

Further observations are required to clarify possible further stages in SCP-XXXX's life-cycle.

Recovery: SCP-XXXX was recovered from a CDC laboratory in ██████, USA on 05/22/20██ following the incident on 05/20/20██. A male and female in their mid-30's were found nearly dead in their home by a neighbor. Both died when the fungal mass was severed by the panicked neighbor.

No further infections occurred from this colony, owing to the immature stage at which the colony was damaged.

Class B amnestics were administered to all personnel who came into direct or indirect contact with the case.

Note 1383-01:

Dr. ████ was found dead on 05/30/20██. A mass of SCP-XXXX seemingly choked Dr. ████ to death. The office,
with the body, was irradiated, before its contents were incinerated. The fungus is suspected to have killed
Dr. ████ after being unable to find another infected host with whom to connect. All experiments involving
human cerebral tissue are hereby prohibited.
