SCP-XXXX-1 specimen found in the [REDACTED]

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Specimens are to be kept within an insulated steel tank measuring 32x46x100 meters filled with saltwater. Temperature must remain at 0° Celsius to 2° Celsius with a minimum of two heating vents at the bottom of the tank. Class D personnel equipped with night vision SCUBA goggles, reinforced polar diving suits, and cattle prods are to be assigned to collect mucus left behind by SCP-XXXX-1 specimens in order to prevent escape. Any foreign source of light is prohibited.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a species of deep sea fish resembling a moray eel with four eyes, a retractable upper jaw (similar to that of Mitsukurina owstoni, the goblin shark), bioluminescent barbels decorating its head, and smooth skin of an unknown color, although reports from Class D personnel often state that it is white or blue. Lengths range anywhere from 9 meters to 12 meters; surprisingly enough, they have little to no weight at all. Individuals of SCP-XXXX have been designated as SCP-XXXX-1. Specimens produce blue, luminescent mucus from special pores located on the end of their barbels. When the substance, designated as SCP-XXXX-2, comes into contact with a solid surface, SCP-XXXX-1 is able to "phase" through the aforementioned surface, regardless of material, as long as it is submerged in water. When SCP-XXXX-2 is removed from water, it will produce a foul odor similar to burning plastic and solidify over the course of 6 hours.

SCP-XXXX-2 cluster found floating freely off the coast of [REDACTED]

Strangely, when out of water, they are still capable of "swimming" through the air in a state of levitation, moving as if they were still beneath the water. However, they are not capable of using mucus while this occurs. This is evidence that they do not require water to breathe.

SCP-XXXX-1, when exposed to light that is not of its own, will begin to produce SCP-XXXX-2 and attempt to coat its victim before simply swimming through them. If SCP-XXXX-2 is not removed from the subject after 73 minutes of exposure, it will begin to seep into their cellular structure, allowing them to phase through solid objects but also completely negating natural healing. Subjects to this effect often die of malnourishment from the inability to sustain themselves.
