SCP ####'s Dormant State |
Item #: SCP-####
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-#### is kept in Storage Sector 23. Following Incident ####-1, a comatose D-Class personnel is to be kept on life support in its cell, with SCP-#### directly next to the bed. This D-Class personnel is to be designated as a dedicated host for SCP-#### during any times SCP-#### is not undergoing testing.
The vital signs of the the D-Class personnel assigned to SCP-#### are to be monitored at all times, ensuring that they are kept alive. If the D-Class personnel assigned to SCP-#### leaves its coma for any reason, SCP-#### is to be assigned a new comatose D-Class personnel within 48 hours.
Description: SCP-#### appears as an emaciated corpse one (1) meter in height assuming a huddled position. SCP-#### is capable of moving its head upon becoming active, but otherwise appears incapable of movement.
Upon being brought within twenty (20) meters of an unconscious sapient creature, SCP-#### becomes active and bonded to the subject. Upon moving to its active state, SCP-####'s head turns to look at the subject with which it has bonded, continuously turning its head to align with the subject's center-mass. This effect persists when SCP-####'s vision is blocked to the subject.
MRI scans of SCP-#### while active have shown brain activity consistent with sensory input and dream state, despite its brain appearing dried and withered while dormant. This, combined with the results of Experiment ####-3, have lead to the conclusion that SCP-#### is aware of its surroundings while active and bonded to a subject. Subsequent testing has also indicated that the only language SCP-#### is able to understand is English.
Moving SCP-#### and its subject more than twenty (20) meters apart will cause the connection to sever. SCP-####'s head will return to the position of its dormant state and all brain activity will immediately cease. SCP-#### is, during this time, unaware of its surroundings (see Experiment Log ####-3).
Subjects bonded to SCP-#### report experiencing mild sleep paralysis and vivid dreams. Attempts to wake the subject are difficult, requiring concentrated effort.
Subjects bonded to SCP-#### report that their dreams often proceed as normal, until emotions reach a peak. At this point, SCP-####-1 will make its presence known. SCP-####-1 is an entity that appears to the subject within the dream. While subject reports have varied in the details, there are a few things that appear to be constant about SCP-####-1's appearance:
► SCP-####-1 appears to be approximately one (1) meter tall.
► SCP-####-1 is always reported to appear male.
► SCP-####-1's face is always reported to be immobile and smiling: “Mask-like”.
SCP-####-1's appearance appears to vary beyond these three rules from subject to subject, and subsequent sightings of the entity by the same subject report the same shape. Subject reports consistently state that once a high level of emotion is reached, SCP-####-1 will appear to crawl out from empty space and turn its gaze to them, head turning to follow them whenever they move.
SCP-####-1 appears to enhance emotional reactions, as subjects have reported that any feelings they had were amplified to an extreme degree. Subject reports have indicated that SCP-####-1 does not seem malicious, and that it does not leave, even if the strong emotions that summoned it initially subside. The entity appears unable or unwilling to communicate with subjects beyond basic gestures.
When a subject bonded with SCP-#### awakens, they report mild muscle-stiffness and fatigue. These symptoms clear fairly quickly, however, and no side effects appear to persist beyond thirty (30) minutes. Subject reports are also very detailed, reporting a near-perfect memory of everything that happened from the moment SCP-####-1 appeared.
Experiment Log ####-3
Date: ██-██-████
Subject:SCP-####, SCP-####-1, D-Class personnel D/####/3
Procedure: The second experiment into SCP-####'s capabilities and motives since Incident ####-1. D/####/3, who had previously bonded with SCP-#### in Experiment ####-2, was given instructions to pay attention to what motions SCP-####-1 made and its appearance. He was informed that he would be interviewed about this upon waking. A series of questions and tasks was presented to SCP-#### to see to what extent it can communicate.
Details: D/####/3 was sedated in SCP-####'s cell. Researchers waited until D/####/2's brain wave activity was consistent with high levels of anger, and Dr. ██████ began speaking to SCP-####. She first informed the entity “The man whose dream you are in will carry your answers back to us. Do you understand?” Next, two questions were posed to SCP-#### by Dr. ██████. The questions were, in order: “Can you see and hear us when you aren't in a dream?” and “Is this man safe with you?”
Afterwards, she presented three colored cards and once again addressed SCP-#### “If you are able, please relay these colors to the man whose dream you are inhabiting.” The colored cards were red, green, and blue, in that order.
Finally, she asked [REDACTED], at which point D/####/3 immediately woke up, despite heavy sedation, and SCP-#### returned to its dormant state. D/####/3 appeared highly agitated, and required a long break before willing to conduct an interview.
Interview Log ####-D
Interviewed: D/####/3
Interviewer: Dr. ██████
Foreword: Relating to Experiment ####-3. D/####/3 was initially unwilling to participate in an interview.
<Begin Log>
Interviewer: I'd like to begin at the moment where SCP-####-1 appeared. To start, what was its appearance?
D/####/3: Same as last time you sent me in there.
Interviewer: Please repeat SCP-####-1's appearance for the record.
D/####/3: It looks like a child. Couldn't be more than three feet tall. Wearing a weird black suit. It has big black eyes and this.. This stupid grin.
Interviewer: Thank you. Could you tell me what happened when the entity appeared?
D/####/3: Yeah. I was havin' that same dream I told you about. My wife telling me she's leaving. I was just getting so [EXPLETIVE] angry, and suddenly everything goes mute. The colors, the sounds… And then the floor opens up, and that… Thing crawls through. I could feel myself getting angrier and angrier, like it was feeding it… But I tried hard to shut it down, just like you guys told me. Not let that [EXPLETIVE] thing get in my head.
Interviewer: Much appreciated. Now, while you were under, we asked SCP-#### a few things, did it react at all in your dream to something you didn't do?
Note: D/####/3 is quiet and seems reluctant to answer at this point.
Interviewer: Please answer the question.
D/####/3: Yeah. It nodded real slow, then shook its head, then nodded again. Then its suit turned red, then green, then blue…
Note: D/####/3 is silent again, does not move on.
Interviewer: Was there anything else?
D/####/3: Look, Doctor, do we have to talk about this?
Interviewer: Please answer the question.
D/####/3: Alright, Christ… It.. stared at me, and then it started shaking. I could feel it in my head again, making me really angry and scared. And then everything started coming apart. Like my dream had its seams ripped out. I saw it look at me, and it wasn't smiling anymore… And suddenly my dream was just gone. That thing was angry. Next thing I know I was awake, and you were looking at me like I shouldn't be.
Interviewer: I see. Thank you for your help, that will be all.
D/####/3: Doctor, what did you say to it?
<End Log>
Closing Statement: It seems clear that SCP-#### is able to see and hear both in dreams and reality while in its active state. I will have to broach the topic of [REDACTED] more carefully in the future if we are to learn anything about this creature.
Incident Report ####-1
Date: ██-██-████
Filed by: Dr. ██████
Incident: After Experiment ####-1 was completed, we sealed SCP-#### in a standard secure locker to await further testing. It was determined that there was no danger from leaving it on its own until testing could be allowed to resume. Three (3) days after Experiment ####-1, the guard for the room, about thirty (30) meters from SCP-####'s locker, fell unconscious on his post and was rushed to the infirmary. An MRI was run, discovering heightened brain activity associated with high emotions. Despite being more than 100 meters from SCP-#### at this point, a search of its locker revealed that it was in its active state and bonded with the guard, who was unable to be awoken.
D-Class personnel D/####/2 was assigned to SCP-####'s care and put under within the same room as the entity. SCP-#### broke its bond with the security guard and forged a bond with D/####/2, allowing the guard to wake from his ordeal. All in all, he was unconscious for two (2) hours. He seemed very disturbed, but was physically healthy, and agreed to an interview after eight (8) hours of recovery time.
Interview Log ####-B attached.
Interview Log ####-B
Interviewed: [REDACTED], guard in Storage Sector 23
Interviewer: Dr. ██████
Foreword: Relating to Incident ####-1
<Begin Log>
Interviewer: Thank you for speaking with me, [REDACTED]. I'd like to discuss what happened on your shift this morning.
[REDACTED]: I… I was guarding the standard secure lockers, the ones in Locker Room B…
Interviewer: Take your time.
[REDACTED]: Thanks… I remember thinking I shouldn't feel this tired, and I went to try and shake myself awake, and suddenly I was standing in this big, grassy field… I must have been dreaming.
Interviewer: And did you see anything in this field?
[REDACTED]: Not at first, but there was this noise behind me. Like someone was ripping wet cloth… And this thing came crawling out of the ground…
Interviewer: And what did this entity look like?
[REDACTED]: It was like a corpse. It was small – I mean short. And it looked like it had been in the sun too long, all bloated… And it had this grin on its face, it looked menacing. But its face didn't move, like it was wearing some kind of creepy, grinning mask…
Interviewer: Did it try communicating with you?
[REDACTED]: It pointed behind me… And there was a rock. It looked like someone had scratched a message in it with their fingernails..
Interviewer: A message?
[REDACTED]: It… it started off scratching but turned into bloody scrapes towards the end… It was only one word.
Interviewer: Well? What did it say?
[REDACTED]: … "Starving." It said "Starving"… I couldn't look away.
Interviewer: Did the entity do anything else during this time?
[REDACTED]: I could hear it trying to move, but it was so bloated that it never reached me… Doc, was it gonna eat me?
<End Log>
Closing Statement: He refused to speak any further after that, and requested to be transferred to another posting. Recommend redacting name from records and administering amnestic so that he might return to his post. Also updating SCP-#### from Safe to Euclid and updating its Special Containment Procedures to include provisions for preventing this from happening again. A comatose D-Class personnel will be assigned to SCP-####'s room for it to bond with. And monitor their vitals… Got to make sure it's not killing these poor bastards.
