Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Euclid
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is currently contained at Site ██. It is to be placed on a one meter tall pedestal within a 5x5x5 meter enclosed cell. Access is only allowed to those with Level 2 Level 3 clearance. One surveillance camera is to be placed within the containment cell for the purpose of observation of test subjects.
Should any direct eye contact be made to SCP-XXXX outside of testing, class-# amnestics are to be promptly administered to the viewer. SCP-XXXX is to be read only under the authorization of Dr. Z█████. Should any unauthorized reading of SCP-XXXX occur, the reader is to be terminated on sight.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a journal with the dimensions of eight cm tall, five cm wide and about one cm thick. Item has a black leather cover and spine with a red leather lace that wraps around the cover and fastens on a firm leather button. The pages cannot be studied due to the anomalous effects of the item, but they are observed to have a golden finish.
When direct eye contact is made with SCP-XXXX (not including video recording or photograph), the viewer will begin to feel an urge to read it. This urge starts as a resistable feeling of curiosity, evolving into a compulsive need to read SCP-XXXX as time progresses. The peak of this effect ranges from ten to twelve hours after initial viewing. When SCP-XXXX is read, regardless of time after initial viewing of SCP-XXXX itself, the lettering within SCP-XXXX‘s pages will flash red and the reader will be paralyzed for a time averaging one minute. After that time they become mobile once again and enter a state of severe emotional distress that will last for an unknown amount of time.
Test subjects claim that, after the reading of SCP-XXXX, they are transported to a place that is similar to their present location, but lacks any color outside of grayscale colors and all light is shown red. This location has been designated as SCP-XXXX-1. Despite the short paralysis time that is observed, test subjects within SCP-XXXX-1 have felt that they have been there for extended periods of time, ranging up to an hour. Test subjects report that they are alone but are followed by a being named SCP-XXXX-1A. SCP-XXXX-1A is reported to be a tall humanoid figure wearing tattered black clothing and hood. Reports say that most of SCP-XXXX-1A‘s body is covered by its clothing. What is revealed is its right arm, but it is reported to lack a hand and is sharpened at two points (most likely at the ends of the radius and ulna bones). No other features are visible, save a single glowing red light in the presence of its left eye. Reports state that SCP-XXXX-1A is able to move through solid matter and move at speeds slightly faster than the reader.
When the reader enters SCP-XXXX-1, it is reported that SCP-XXXX-1A will attempt to stalk, taunt and scare the reader in the following manners: standing a distance ahead of the reader and staring at them; following behind them in plain sight; running after them; emerging from the ground, walls, or ceiling in front of the reader the reader; whispering unintelligible words in the reader’s ear; scratching on hard surfaces with its arm to make an unsettling noise. The stalking process will proceed for a wide range of time between five minutes to one hour. SCP-XXXX-1A will then use its arm to impale the reader’s heart, uttering the phrase “That was my secret”. The reader then “wakes up" in the location where they had read SCP-XXXX. The distress following the departure of SCP-XXXX-1 is likely a result of SCP-XXXX-1A’s scare tactics as well as the test subject’s perceived death. During this period of distress, subjects report that they see SCP-XXXX-1A appear randomly around them for a split second at random intervals, causing extreme paranoia. Subjects will sometimes speak incessantly about regretting the reading of SCP-XXXX, the presence of SCP-XXXX-1A and their perceived death. If the reader is asked anything regarding what was written in SCP-XXXX or what “the secret” is, the reader will succumb to extreme distress to the point of violently attacking others, claiming that none should know the secret. There has only been one case where the reader executed fatally violent actions (See Incident XXXX).
Incident XXXX: On ██/██/██, D-████ exited paralysis after reading SCP-XXXX, under the predicted sense of distress. One hour into the distress period, however, the subject abruptly became silent and calm. About one minute after the abrupt change in behavior, the subject attacked the observing researchers ████ ██████ and ██████ ████ and killed them via impalement in the heart, using his own hand as the weapon. A response team was sent in to immediately terminate D-████.The subject sustained heavy injuries (much more than an average human could handle) before finally collapsing dead. Examination of D-████'s body showed that his left eye was purely blood red, void of iris and pupil; his fingers had been broken from impaling his hand into the researchers' chests. Containment procedures for SCP-XXXX were updated (Level 3 Clearance) to avoid repeated incidents. Further study of this incident is to be promptly completed.
