Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a reinforced 120 liter aquarium tank, kept at 28 degrees Centigrade with the use of a standard heating lamp and thermostat. As this subject has shown itself to be relatively amenable to its environment, a simple spread of sawdust and standard reptilian tank furnishings may be used for its care. A meal of one freeze-dried rodent per week is sufficient for SCP-XXXX's dietary needs.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a reptilian entity resembling an ordinary corn snake (Pantherophis guttatus), 2.1 meters in length.

SCP-XXXX's main anomaly is a brain mutation, visible as a large swelling on the top of its skull. X-rays show that the entity's cerebrum and cerebellum have been enlarged, with blood vessels to the brain enlarged to provide the necessary blood to the added tissue. Comparisons to a normal corn snake have shown increased tendencies towards affectionate actions, but severely lowered intelligence; SCP-XXXX will often engage in periods of pausing and staring fixedly, or frequently running headfirst into its tank walls in attempts to reach a recognized handler.

History: SCP-XXXX was located while investigating a report of a 'meteor strike', destroying twelve meters of woodlands in the area of [REDACTED], Siberia. As Foundation agents were already on-site to investigate reports of anomalous behavior consistent with SCP-████, the crash site was quickly contained.

The meteor was transported for analysis, whereupon it was discovered that it was a synthetic shell crafted from tungsten. While the shell itself showed no anomalous properties, two stone boxes were contained within. When X-rayed, one box contained SCP-XXXX, cushioned and cooled by the box being partially filled with water, while the second contained an alien message embossed in a thin sheet of iron. This message has been logged as SCP-XXXX-1, and its text is listed below.

We have taken your lower species and engineered it to show our capabilities. We have faster-than-light travel. We have antennas to detect your radio signals. This animal will show the merest fragment of our aggression towards you, and it will destroy you. In one of your hours, this subject's full capabilities will awaken. Its full mental power will be dedicated towards destroying you. Oceans will boil. Cities will crumble. Our superior intellect shall be shown.

Addendum: █ weeks after the initial discovery of SCP-XXXX, a report was publicized in Archaeology's bi-monthly publication, detailing reports of an anomalous item found inside a large slab of obsidian, formed from lava inside of Mount Vesuvius prior to its eruption. When the obsidian was split, traces of unpurified tungsten were found inside, along with small bits of iron oxide. All preserved documents from Pompeii show no mentions of a meteor strike.

Addendum XXXX-01: During the Three Mile Investigation in 1979, █ hours after Foundation agents were deployed to investigate the area surrounding the meltdown for evidence of SCP activity, a meteor was located and confiscated. Upon examination of this meteor after removal to a Facility branch, a measure of the radioactivity absorbed by the meteor showed that it had spent [REDACTED] in the area affected by radiation, severely lowering the odds that it was a factor in the meltdown. No anomalous properties were discovered in the meteor.

When analyzed, the meteor was found to be a hollow shell, composed of eighty-three percent purified tungsten, resembling the current container of SCP-XXXX. When opened, the interior was severely deformed from impact, with the pulverized remains of a deceased animal within. Further examination of the few recognizable pieces of the animal determined it to be a common European tree frog (Hyla arborea). In addition, a damaged iron sheet was found, broken in half from the deformation of the meteor's shell. The sheet was preserved by Foundation staff, and bore the same words as the note accompanying SCP-XXXX.

Addendum XXXX-02: At 15:41, June 17, 2000, a magnitude 6.6 earthquake struck the South Iceland Seismic Zone. While only minor injuries were reported from this disaster, large amounts of property damage were reported.

After shocks fully subsided on June 21, a small number of citizens reported finding a meteor inside a fissure formed by the earthquakes. Before the story could reach local media, Foundation agents were dispatched, and the meteor was confiscated for research while Class-B amnestics were administered. A cursory examination of the meteor in private custody revealed the word "METEORITE" chiselled onto the side, in English, French, Hindi, Chinese, and Esperanto.

The meteor was found to be composed of ninety-four percent purified tungsten, showing signs of improvement from the previous meteor during the Three Mile Investigation. When opened via remote cutting tools, the intact body of an infantile alligator snapping turtle (Macrochelys temminckii) was found, rolling out of a compartment inside the meteor shell. While undamaged by landing, an autopsy of the reptile showed its brain to be enlarged, while its skull remained its normal size for a regular snapping turtle of its comparative age. This compression of the brain tissue appeared to have caused its death en route.
