Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: Both SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 are to be kept in standard storage containers at Site-87. Only one instance of SCP-XXXX can be taken from its container at a time. If any other instances of SCP-XXXX are found all testing on site regarding SCP-XXXX is to be postponed until it is contained on site. Use and testing of SCP-XXXX must be approved directly by Dr. Webins. In the event of a containment breach MTF-Magicians will be tasked with securing both instances of SCP-XXXX. MTF-Magicians has full access to SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1. Request to prohibit any testing and/or neutralize SCP-XXXX is pending. Request to reclassify as Euclid is pending.

Description: SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 are basic leather bound books. Carbon dating has put both books to about 450 years old but despite age both books seem to be in near mint condition (probably due to the contents of said books). Despite being perfectly preserved the books are still susceptible to intentional damage. The contents of the books consist of different rituals, hand gestures, and mixtures that are described in the books with text and illustrations. The text in the books describe these as “spells and potions”.

Both books were signed by ██████ and references to this fictional character can be found throughout both books. Each book also has its own title, SCP-XXXX’s being Wayward and SCP-XXXX-1’s being Destin. Wayward seems to be mostly rituals, the most notable ritual would be “Summoning a pepperoni pizza” which is similar to the AO Pepperoni pizza. Destin focuses on a certain types of magic rather than groups. Destin seems to focus on “traveling magic”. This consists of teleportation rituals and spells, with very little focus on potions. It is to be noted that neither books have text relating to obtaining extra fingers but both mention other aspects such as “fingers above the forearms are not effective”.

When unimprinted subjects attempt to read the text in either book without interacting physically it becomes seemingly difficult to understand the text, in most cases the subject reports “the handwriting was illegible” or something similar, same goes for imprinted subjects that have had both hands amputated and unimprinted subjects that have had at least on hand amputated. When subjects are imprinted they will go through a series of 3 stages that will result in either termination or a permanent 4th stage. Full description of these stages can be found below. Testing has shown subjects that have lost their pinky and or ring finger are still able to imprint and interact with SCP-XXXX.

Once a subject reaches stage four they are considered to be imprinted. Imprinted subjects are able to read the contents of SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 with no physical contact required. Imprinted subjects are able to use the content in the books as though it is real, but most of it is impossible to perform due to certain ingredients for potions mentioned in the books not existing or being to inhumane to acquire and a majority of spells mentioned requiring more than six fingers on each hand, the most extreme of these being a spell that requires ███ fingers, seeming as imposible due to limited space, but growing extra arms to accommodate has been considered.

SCP-XXXX was found after reports of strange disappearances of kids in ██████, Miami were brought to the attention of undercover Agent ████. Reports described children vanishing in the “blink of an eye” turned out to be the kids would literally vanish out of nowhere. Upon investigation [DATA EXPUNGED]. SCP-XXXX was found in custody of █████ ████ who was shot 23 times by Agent ████. Upon closer examination of his body he was found to have over ██ fingers attached to his hands and lower arms, most of which matched the DNA samples of the abducted children. This led to the belief that a second book existed due to no text in SCP-XXXX containing information on teleportation or gaining fingers. Class E anesthetics were administered through the town. Class A anesthetic was administered to Agent ████ upon his request regarding this incident.

Stage One: Stage one occurs when any sentient humanoids with two or more hands are exposed to either instance of SCP-XXXX through physical contact. Stage one symptoms can take up to 2 minutes to manifest, the speed of which seems to be dictated by the point of contacts distance from the hands. Stage one symptoms include an increase in certain chemicals in the brain, most notably dopamine and serotonin. Subjects undergoing stage one report an unharmful burning sensation in both hands that will gradually start to spread into their wrists and lower arms. Most subjects report feeling happy and excited, though on rare occasions stage one can cause different emotions and sensations such as pain, fear, anger, sadness, and anxiety. So far subjects with abnormal behaviour during stage one have always made it to stage four. Abnormalities occur randomly and happen at least 1 in every 50 subjects.

Stage Two: Stage two begins when Stage one reaches the subject’s elbow joints. When this happens the burning sensation starts to rapidly spread throughout the body, and when the subject is completely engulfed the sensation becomes physical, with their skin radiating temperatures of up to 1,100 degrees celsius. Their body seems to be uninfected by the intense heat but the subjects will still feel as though they are on fire. Shortly after the subject will fall into a catatonic state while their body maintains a constant temperature of around 800 degrees celsius.

Stage Three: Subjects will start to “grow” tattoos around the whole body similar in design to barbed wire. When the tattoos grow around the neck of the subject it concludes the end of stage three, causing one of two outcomes. The most likely one is the tattoos manifesting and constricting tightly around the subject until [REDACTED]. This outcome always results in termination of the subject. The second outcome is described as stage four.

Stage Four: When subjects reach stage four they will remain in a catatonic state until a sixth finger has grown next to the thumb on each hand. This process usually takes 10 to 15 minutes, during which their body temperature will return to normal. Opon the fingers completion the subject will revive from there catatonic state. Subjects seem to go through no psychological changes once this process is completed. Over time the subjects tattoos will seem to fade away leaving the only proof of imprinting being their sixth fingers.

Incident XXXX-1-2, X/X/2017
SCP-XXXX-1 was recovered from a house fire by Agent Ridge when reports of color changing fire grabbed the local agent’s attention. Upon examining the remains of the house SCP-XXXX-1 was found to be completely unaffected. When brought to Site-██ it resulted in [REDACTED]. After incident was resolved SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 was moved to Site-87. All foundation staff exposed to SCP-XXXX during Containment Breach-██ are to go through military training and memorize all of SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1’s usable spells and assigned to MTF-Magicians.

These books are like fuckin nuclear bombs! If you were there you would know. I finally understand why Agent ████ [REDACTED].
Dr. █████

Dr.█████ is overreacting, SCP-XXXX doesn’t pose any real threat if kept out of the wrong hands. Besides there’s no definitive proof that what happend at Site-██ wasn’t some other SCP. We should just keep the books as a Safe class to avoid unnecessary work
