SCP-2669

Item #: SCP-2669

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-2669 is enclosed in a steel cage of adjustable size (currently 500m x 400m x 5m) inside Area 2669. The cage can be entered from one of two doors on either the north or south sides, both of which require Level 3 access to open. It can be expanded mechanically by crane or robot. There are four cameras inside the cage that constantly surveil SCP-2669 and relay their feed to the Area 2669 headquarters. Area 2669 is defined by an electrified fence one kilometer by one kilometer, centered around SCP-2669. This fence has guard towers every half kilometer outfitted with cameras and search lights. The southeastern corner of the fence is a concrete building which serves as the headquarters for the area. A dirt road leads from here to the southern door to SCP-2669's cage. The headquarters is the only entrance to Area 2669.

Any information about instances of SCP-2669-1 is to be relayed to Area 2669 Headquarters and the Mass Surveillance Office in Site 19. SCP-2669-1 are considered Risk Level 1 but can become Risk Level 3 if made aware of SCP-2669. If such an upgrade occurs, MTF Upsilon-4 ("Dreamweavers") is to respond in order to administer amnestics and possibly detain affected persons.

Only D-Class personnel are to be exposed to SCP-2669. Requests for testing must be approved Doctor Mayor and Director Montero in Area 2669. SCP-2669's cage must be at least two meters from the edge of SCP-2669 at all times, including during testing. If SCP-2669 expands, so must the cage.

Description: SCP-2669 is an outcropping of rock located in Minnesota, USA. Though it bears visual similarities to jaspilite, SCP-2669's physical composition remains largely unknown1. Electronic imaging has revealed SCP-2669 to be consistent in its structure but denser in the center. It is currently ███m x ███m x ██m.

SCP-2669 exhibits a number of anomalous properties. Firstly, it emits a minor seismic pulse approximately every 90 minutes. These pulses have never exceeded a magnitude of 1.6 on the Richter scale and are generally in the range of 1.1-1.3. Secondly, SCP-2669 grows anomalously when a human subject nears within 0.5m of its surface. Such people are permanently affected by SCP-2669 and will be hereby referred to as SCP-2669-1. SCP-2669 grows inconsistently when these events occur but generally expands at a rate of 1m/day in a random direction. This swelling usually displaces the ground surrounding SCP-2669.

Subjects affected by SCP-2669 report lingering feelings of emptiness, incompleteness, and discouragement. Prolonged exposure intensifies these effects. Medication and therapy have proved wholly unsuccessful as treatment thus far. Instances of SCP-2669-1 also experience insomnia that manifests approximately two weeks after their initial exposure to SCP-2669 and intensifies with time. The aforementioned effects subside entirely when SCP-2669-1 are within .5m of SCP-2669. This tends to draw subjects who are aware of this fact to the rock.

SCP-2669-1 note seeing SCP-2669 often in their dreams. SCP-2669 is generally rendered realistically and without distortions. Subjects who are able to lucid dream report not being able to change the setting when SCP-2669 is present. However, subjects who sleep inside SCP-2669's active area experience very different dreams. They initially report nightmares focused on SCP-2669. These dreams usually feature visual distortions such as rippling and color shifting. SCP-2669-1 also report seeing dark red shapes jumping out at them in a frightening manner. These dreams tend to have a profound psychological effect on subjects, particularly those who were highly vexed by insomnia.

If SCP-2669-1 continue to expose themselves to SCP-2669, these dreams become less extreme within a few days. Most subjects stop describing their dreams as scary within 5-7 days and some even describe them as pleasant during this time. During this period, subjects spend progressively more time asleep. SCP-2669-1 report less erratic and visually clearer dreams than they initially experienced. Subjects universally describe a dark red humanoid figure appearing after their sixth or seventh night in SCP-2669's active area. Reports differ on the details of this figure's appearance such as its size, texture, and features, but it generally takes a passive role in the dream. Due to the increasing intensity of SCP-2669's effects after prolonged exposure, subjects are unable to leave after a period of 8-14 days. Those who try experience such intense depression and insomnia that they return immediately if possible. As a result of this, ~8█% of known instances of SCP-2669-1 have either died within .5m of SCP-2669 or been forcibly removed by Foundation personnel.

Discovery: SCP-2669 was discovered after reports [REDACTED]. Foundation agents discovered Officer Khan asleep on top of SCP-2669 next to two corpses, identified as Jonah and Anabelle Robbins. The other missing persons Khan and Bach had been assigned to search for were not discovered until later. Solomon Olarte's body was discovered after having overdosed on opiates by his parents on █/█/201█. Evelyn Greene was found two days after Olarte by GOC agents who discovered her camping in a nearby forest. Greene is believed to have died in GOC custody as a result of Experiment 2669-A. Officer Khan was inducted into the Foundation as D-█████ and was terminated ██/██/201█. Officer Bach [DATA EXPUNGED].

Addendum: The following note was written by Dr. Mayor, Head Researcher on SCP-2669.

Memorandum to Area 2669, █/1/201█

Today, another person walked up to the fence and tried to climb it. Security was quick to respond and the intruder has been detained. This incident does not concern me. What concerns me is the increasing frequency of this type of event; the same thing happened last week, and two weeks before that. We've had more people try to get to 2669 in the past three months than we had in the previous two years. These people all show various levels of exposure to 2669.

There are only a few possible explanations for this, and none of them are pretty. The least likely possibility is that they managed to get through our security, exposed themselves, escaped, and tried to return. That's unlikely, to say the least. A slightly more plausible explanation is that these people are former Class Ds. We haven't lost track of anyone we've exposed to 2669 though, so I find that unlikely as well. Another possibility is that these people were exposed before we found and quarantined SCP-2669. However, this would mean they were unaffected by Experiment 2669-A. This is possible but not very plausible in my opinion. The final explanation is that they're getting exposed to the skip some other way. This would mean that there's another instance of SCP-2669 somewhere that we haven't contained. We don't have any evidence for this other than that instances of SCP-2669-1 are showing up at our doorstep. There haven't been any major incidents similar to the one that precipitated our discovery of 2669; but this doesn't mean there won't be. We don't have the data to back this one up but it's the most in line with our research.

The other thing we don't know is how these people know where to find Area 2669. We have not yet discerned whether 2669-1 are drawn to 2669 anomalously or if they need to be told the location. If the latter is true, it would give some credence to the final theory. As such, I am ordering a set of tests to answer this question. I have also asked Director Montero to increase our security. These changes are effective immediately.

Stay vigilant. Remember, our first goal is to secure.
