Item#: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special containment procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained within a ventilated cylindrical steel chamber 120 m in circumference and 16 m in height. No personnel are to come within 35 meters of SCP-XXXX at any time outside of approved testing.

If SCP-XXXX is activated outside of testing hours: Any instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are to be evacuated from Area-12 if possible, and all instances of SCP-XXXX-3 are to be terminated on sight.

SCP-XXXX is effectively inert so long as it is not approached.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 1.8 m cube made of a highly durable ligneous material similar to that of wood from an ash tree of red and black coloration. Each side of SCP-XXXX is etched with a black symbol of unknown origin. The top and adjacent side of the cube share four 170-cm long lacerations. These openings reveal that the interior of SCP-XXXX contains flames, despite lacking an obvious source of fuel or ignition. SCP-XXXX's entire mass can be observed to expand and contract over a period of approximately 8 seconds. This cycle appears to be a form of respiration. Upon exhalation, SCP-XXXX releases large quantities of smoke through its openings.

When a human individual enters within a twelve meter radius from SCP-XXXX, the symbols on SCP-XXXX's sides emit yellow light for between five seconds and 11 minutes; this signifies the initiation of an active state. Humans who have entered this radius are henceforth designated SCP-XXXX-2. Once the symbols cease emitting light, one or more of SCP-XXXX's openings will release excessive amounts of smoke and a single instance of SCP-XXXX-3.

SCP-XXXX-3 instances vary drastically among observed activation events of SCP-XXXX. Generally biological in nature, instances of SCP-XXXX-3 often share similarities to known organisms, especially humanoids, albeit possessing a wide array of anomalous qualities, such as unusual size and/or body composition. All SCP-XXXX-3 instances are highly aggressive and will pursue their respective SCP-XXXX-2 with extreme prejudice.

It has been ascertained that instances of SCP-XXXX-3 are related, in some capacity, to respective instances of SCP-XXXX-2: psychological evaluation of surviving subjects has confirmed that, prior to exposure, all individuals possessed deep-seated phobias which they displayed no signs of following the incident. During exposure, each deleted phobia was represented in some form by a corresponding SCP-XXXX-3 instance.

Should SCP-XXXX-2 cooperate, it will be led by SCP-XXXX-3 to SCP-XXXX. However, should SCP-XXXX-2 resist the entity, SCP-XXXX-3 will become hostile and aggressive toward the victim until SCP-XXXX-2 is terminated.

If SCP-XXXX-2 returns to SCP-XXXX, it and SCP-XXXX-3 will enter the cube through one of the anomaly's available openings. Both will remain inside the anomaly for approximately 1 minute. Following this, SCP-XXXX-2 will re-emerge from the anomaly possessing four scars on their facial area1.

Document #XXXX-01: A list documenting what is believed to be SCP-XXXX-3's form in correspondence to SCP-XXXX-2's fears is detailed below.

Document #XXXX-02: SCP-XXXX was recovered from atop Mt. ████████ Norway in 20██ after an archeological site reported several missing persons. The object was surrounded by 2 runic stones with inscriptions of the Old Norse language. The stones' inscriptions are cited below.
