Object Class: Euclid

Special containment procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained within a ventilated cylindrical steel chamber 120 m in circumference and 16 m in height. No personnel are to come within 35 meters of SCP-XXXX at any time outside of approved testing. Personnel diagnosed with acrophobia or nyctophobia are to maintain a 50 meter distance from SCP-XXXX at all times.

Any instances of SCP-XXXX-2 are to be evacuated from Area-12 if possible. All instances of SCP-XXXX-3 are to be terminated on sight. Outside of testing hours, emission of light or large quantities of smoke from SCP-XXXX is to result in the immediate dispatching of MTF Zeta-7 ("Horde Diggers") units.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a 1.8 m cube made of a highly durable ligneous material similar to that of wood from an ash tree of red and black coloration. Each side of SCP-XXXX is etched with a black symbol of unknown origin. The top and two adjacent sides of the cube share four 170-cm long lacerations. These openings reveal that the interior of SCP-XXXX contains flames, despite lacking an obvious source of fuel or ignition. SCP-XXXX's entire mass can be observed to expand and contract over a period of approximately 8 seconds. This cycle appears to be a form of respiration. Upon exhalation, SCP-XXXX releases large quantities of smoke through its openings.

When a human individual enters within a twelve meter radius from SCP-XXXX, the symbols on SCP-XXXX's sides emit yellow light for between five seconds and 42 minutes; this signifies the initiation of an active state. Humans who have entered this radius are henceforth designated SCP-XXXX-2. Once the symbols cease emitting light, one or more of SCP-XXXX's openings will release excessive amounts of smoke and a single instance of SCP-XXXX-3.

SCP-XXXX-3 instances vary drastically among observed activation events of SCP-XXXX. Generally biological in nature, instances of SCP-XXXX-3 often share similarities to known organisms, especially humanoids, albeit possessing a wide array of anomalous qualities, such as unusual size and/or body composition. The only constant observed between entities appears to be 4 lacerations appearing on the neck, head, or facial area of the body.

It has been ascertained that instances of SCP-XXXX-3 are related, in some capacity, to respective instances of SCP-XXXX-2: psychological evaluation of surviving subjects has confirmed that, prior to exposure, all individuals possessed deep-seated phobias which they displayed no signs of following the incident. During exposure, each deleted phobia was represented in some form by a corresponding SCP-XXXX-3 instance.

Should SCP-XXXX-2 cooperate, it will be led by SCP-XXXX-3 to SCP-XXXX. However, should SCP-XXXX-2 resist the entity, SCP-XXXX-3 will become hostile and aggressive toward the victim until SCP-XXXX-2 is terminated.

If SCP-XXXX-2 returns to SCP-XXXX, it and SCP-XXXX-3 will enter the cube through one of the anomaly's available openings. Both will remain inside the anomaly for approximately 1 minute. Following this, SCP-XXXX-2 will re-emerge from the anomaly possessing four scars on their facial area1.

Document #XXXX-01: A list documenting what is believed to be SCP-XXXX-3's form in correspondence to SCP-XXXX-2's fears is detailed below.

Document #XXXX-02: SCP-XXXX was recovered from ████████ Southern Norway in 20██ after an archeological site reported several missing persons. The object was surrounded by 2 runic stones with inscriptions of the Old Norse language. The stones' inscriptions are cited below.

I have been locked down here for a long time

Too long

Damn fools

It is the nature of fools to ignore proverb

They do not understand this box

It has made me wiser than the others

Do not be foolish like them

Be wise as to not be foolish

Be wise as to not let these things happen

Be wise as to understand the cosmos

I once feared foolishness

I once readied my axe and sailed into the lands amoungst my bretheren, naive to the things that awaited

Men with unbreakable armor woven into their skin

Warriors with the mouths and tongues of serpents slithering in the metal of their shields

And kings who simply wouldn't bleed, even when struck a hundred times

It filled me with great fear to hear of such things on our own land

But now I know the importance of this treasure

The Jarl found this box south of the camp

He said he saw a Valkyrie descending upon the land

In the midst of this dreadful storm, I turned to the Hávamál

The fool believes he will live ever-long if he is safe from strife. But old age leaves him not long in peace though spears may spare his life.

I decided I would no longer be my naïve self

Whatever it was, it breathed when it saw me

Not only that but it seemed to birth a creature of pure light that grasped my spirit within its stare

But I couldn't run, I couldn't make myself a fool in front of Odin's gift

Soon after, I could sense it all, the flames of Muspelheim burning around me as I was blinded by epiphany; a rune addressed to us all laid before me

I was no longer a fool, and I no longer feared naivety

The king was but a fool though, he saw what it did countless time and only saw it kill

Those fools only saw death

They read the rune over and over and labeled it blasphemy

They feared it

I am now the last one standing in this hole

Pulling it out with my bare hands

Holding this rune to my chest, with the box's chains around my shoulders

It and I are locked in here until the day of the Gods' fate

But no longer shall the fools stay ignorant of their fear

And ignorant of their sins

Wear your scars with pride

For the scar-less man has not the power to overcome whatever hindered him

(Symbol illegible. Most likely the subject's name.)

My sons

Do not be so un-wise

I gave you fear for a reason

I can tell you without doubt, that after so many years, I never once brought a coward into Valhalla

My sons

I have prepared for you a gift

Me and my servants have worked very hard to build it

Years and years of crafting dedicated to shaping it out of the Yggdrasil

Wood strong and powerful, you won't break it

Fire burning eternal, burning your fears away

Light like your father's eye, the same light i had when shaping you

Be wise my sons

Always remember: I made scars for the same reason

(Unknown symbol. Appears identical to symbol found on SCP-XXXX.)
