SCP-XXXX when turned off.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a Heavy Containment Locker 4 m x 3 m x 5 m room at Site-██1. A chair will be the only other object in the room. Under no circumstances should SCP-XXXX be plugged into any sort of power source when not undergoing testing. No security cameras or any other kind of recording device are allowed inside the containment chamber2. Should SCP-XXXX transfer itself to another television, it must be contained immediately, and the old carrier destroyed. Should SCP-XXXX be discovered inhabiting any other televisions outside of any Foundation Sites, Procedure XXXX-Infection must be carried out.

Description: In its current state, SCP-XXXX manifests itself in a 40-inch flat screen television (hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-1) manufactured by Samsung. There does not appear to be any abnormal functions when anybody views normal television programs. However, if the television is turned off and is not interacted with for a long period of time3, anybody who views it will report seeing strange entities in the screen’s reflection. The appearances of these entities vary with each viewer, so there is no reliable description of what they look like. However, one entity (referred to as SCP-XXXX-2) appears to every viewer of SCP-XXXX-1. SCP-XXXX-2 has the visual appearance of a young humanoid female estimated to be between the ages of five and ten. She always appears to be sitting down, her legs crossed and her hands folded in her lap. Several other entities have appeared alongside SCP-XXXX-2, but they lack any definite form. Any attempts made by anyone or anything to interact with the entities in any way results in failure. As of ██/██/20██, there has been no successful way in interacting with them, nor has there been a way to detect them outside of the television’s reflection. It has been shown that it is possible to interact with SCP-XXXX-2 and have a complete conversation with her4.

SCP-XXXX was brought to the Foundation's attention after four teenagers were arrested after they were found dumping several working televisions in a junkyard5. When questioned by the police, they claimed "we just wanted to get rid of the TV spirits". The Foundation searched the area, finding another television set in the home of ███████ ████ that was affected by the anomaly. Therefore, Procedure XXXX-Infection was carried out. Afterward, the original infected television was brought to Site-██ without incident. Destroying the host or original television set appears to be effective in removing the entities.

Addendum #1: It appears that SCP-XXXX is capable of transferring itself onto other television sets. If another television set is placed in close proximity of SCP-XXXX and both remain off for a long period of time6, SCP-XXXX transfers itself onto the second television. Viewers can see the entities in both televisions, however, SCP-XXXX-2 will not appear on SCP-XXXX-1 and will only appear on the second television. SCP-XXXX can also transfer itself onto security camera monitors that attempt to record anything involved with SCP-XXXX at any point in time. The monitor that displays the security feed malfunctions and shuts off, reflecting SCP-XXXX-2 and other entities as usual. However, the security camera feed is no longer available and that monitor must be replaced. As of ██/██/20██, SCP-XXXX has not transferred to any other security camera monitors and only seems capable of inhabiting one monitor at a time, unlike televisions. After the monitor is replaced, SCP-XXXX-2 will return to SCP-XXXX-1.

Addendum #2: Several other television sets were discovered to have the same anomaly. While most of the televisions infected with SCP-XXXX have been destroyed, there is the possibility of uncontained instances of SCP-XXXX. Procedure XXXX-Infection was carried out in all cities where the original televisions were found. On these occasions, all televisions were destroyed in an isolated location where no other technology was present. Should any more reports of the anomaly come to the attention of the Foundation, the city and the surrounding area of 100 km must be checked for any manifestations of SCP-XXXX.

Addendum #3: On ██/██/19██, SCP-XXXX breached containment, and assumed control over all monitors in the facility. All security cameras shut down, and all other televisions on-site turned off. SCP-XXXX-2 was not present in any of the televisions but was found physically roaming the Site. Security personnel attempted to capture SCP-XXXX-2, but this proved unsuccessful as she appeared to be dragged into a nearby television by an unknown entity. The situation was resolved and no other SCPs managed to breach containment.

Note: I'd like to know how SCP-XXXX breached containment. This may be catastrophic, due to the fact that we still don't know if SCP-XXXX has malicious intent. If SCP-XXXX-2 can appear in a physical form, and be interacted with, this might be a bigger problem than we initially assumed. Thankfully, security cameras were able to get a good view of SCP-XXXX-2's face. We were able to salvage the recording despite the monitor shutting down7. Currently, we are trying to find out if SCP-XXXX-2 ever existed and who she was. -Dr. K

Addendum #4: Following an investigation from Foundation personnel, SCP-XXXX-2 has been revealed to be Mary █████████. She had lived in █████, Maine. Foundation members discovered that Mary █████████ had disappeared in 1989. Supposedly, she had run away from home, for no apparent reason. In her second-floor bedroom, a television was found smashed, along with an old diary with the last entry on 29/08/1989 (referred to as Document XXXX-A). Mary was eight years old when she ran away.

Note: Superfluous information has been removed.

Document XXXX-A

Addendum #5: After some discussion among researchers that were studying SCP-XXXX, communication with SCP-XXXX-2 was attempted. SCP-XXXX had been transferred to a remote testing site that had been built for the purpose of attempting communication with SCP-XXXX-2. The site had been prepared with several televisions and security cameras. SCP-XXXX was allowed to infect all of the previously mentioned items. Due to SCP-XXXX not showing any malicious intent, three unarmed Class-D personnel will attempt to communicate with SCP-XXXX-2 if she can be found roaming the facility. They were given recording devices and a set of questions to ask SCP-XXXX-2 if she is found. SCP-XXXX took control of all televisions, and the Class-Ds were sent to find her. Eventually, D-62510 had found SCP-XXXX-2 near the western side of the building, and managed to communicate with her.

Interview Log

End Log

Notes: Upon security camera footage, a large black hand manifested itself from a nearby television. After appearing it proceeded to attack D-62510, killing her almost instantly. Afterward, the hand dragged SCP-XXXX-2 back into the television. The audio log was damaged in the event, but it was collected and a majority of it was salvaged. SCP-XXXX was then transferred back to Site-██ without incident. After review of the interview log, it was decided that any further testing will attempt to 'free' SCP-XXXX-2, nothing else.
