The top of SCP-XXXX in its non-active state.

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: An exclusion zone measuring no less that 5 square kilometres surrounding SCP-XXXX is to be maintained at all times. This is to be patrolled and secured by sentry teams posted at 1km points along the perimeter. Due to the isolated location of SCP-XXXX, any trespassers nearing or entering the exclusion zone are to be treated as highly suspect and detained for subsequent interrogation.

Routine observation of SCP-XXXX’s anomalous properties are to be made remotely. Unless undergoing authorised testing, any and all apparitions and emergences from SCP-XXXX are not to be engaged on any grounds.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a decommissioned chairlift located in the █████████ area of the ██████████ mountain range. It is approximately ██ kilometres in length and the cable is suspended 9.3m above the ground at its highest point. Originally built as a part of a planned ski resort in 1983, it was abandoned upon the bankruptcy of the financing company. It is not known when SCP-XXXX’s anomalous properties began to manifest themselves. SCP-XXXX came to Foundation attention in ████, upon reports of strange movements around it by hikers in the area. A containment team was dispatched and established the current security procedures.

When in an inactive state, SCP-XXXX shows no anomalous properties. However, when local meteorological conditions cause visibility around the structure to fall to less than ~5 metres, SCP-XXXX will enter its active state. The cable and cars connected to it will begin to move at between 3.2 and 4.6 m/s, despite having no identifiable conventional power source. To this date, forces up to and including [REDACTED] have been shown to not be able to affect the speed or movement of the cable.

Apart from the aforementioned movement, no other anomalous characteristics of SCP-XXXX are apparent at the bottom of the chairlift when in the active state. SCP-XXXX's secondary anomalous characteristic manifests at the top of the chairlift. To date, ███ objects have been recorded exiting the chairlift at its highest point while it is in an active state. These have included humanoid forms dressed in 1960's era ski apparel, an approximately █ year old male aboriginal child, a large Himalayan marmot (Marmota himalayana), and [DATA EXPUNGED], accompanied by at least 8 [DATA EXPUNGED]. Sustained tracking of these apparitions once they have exited the structure is inhibited by the inherent reduced visibility when SCP-XXXX has entered an active state.

To date no method of successfully recording the movement of a chair from the bottom to the top of the chairlift has been established. All most electronic recording and tracking devices mounted to the structure have failed or malfunctioned once they are out of visual range of the bottom of the lift.

Addendum: At 16:24 on ██-██-████, SCP-XXXX entered an active state. During this time no fewer than 827 [DATA EXPUNGED] proceeded to exit the top of the lift and travel at high speed towards the sentry posts stationed around the perimeter of the exclusion zone.

During the cleanup operation, remains of Agent ████ were found in and around the ruins of sentry posts 1 and 2. Laboratory analysis is ongoing.

Following the events of Exploration I and subsequent occurences, I am calling a halt to all further testing of XXXX. If contained in its current state it doesn't pose a significant threat to anybody. Let's leave it that way. - Dr. ████████
