Killer Tape

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a locked safe at site-(blank). Testing with SCP-XXXX is only to be conducted upon D class personnel and only with the written permission from doctor ██████████. Testing is only to be conducted in a secured and soundproofed room. Only D class personnel are permitted in the room during testing.

If personal are inadvertently exposed to SCP-XXXX they are to be immediately administered class B amnesiacs and quarantined for two weeks. If symptoms do not manifest they are then to be given a psych evaluation and, if they are deemed healthy, returned to full active duty. If Class B amnesiacs cannot be administered within one day of exposure the affected are to be terminated.

Under no circumstances are any audio recording devices to be permitted within the room during testing, nor may any surveillance devices placed in the room be capable of transmitting or storing audio.

No device capable of playing cassette tapes is to be permitted in the same room as SCP-XXXX unless testing is in progress.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an audio file currently contained on the original cassette tape it was discovered on, SCP-XXXX is approximately 12 minutes in length. The precise content on SCP-XXXX is unknown due to each subject having given a different report of what they heard, if they are willing and able to report at all.

When a subject listens to the entire duration of SCP-XXXX they are completely convinced that the people closest to them must die in order to prevent a disaster of a greater personal magnitude then the death of the targeted individual. If the compulsion cannot be carried out after ten days the subject will self-terminate.

What this disaster is varies from subject to subject and has ranged from the end of the world to a loss of a particularly prized possession.

When D class personnel without any personal attachments are exposed to SCP-XXXX they have invariably attempted suicide with any available resources, bashing their heads into walls, or floors if there are no other resources available. If sedated they resume suicide attempts upon regaining consciousness. Due to the lack of new test results with this type of subject it is recommended to refrain from testing with D class personnel without any significant interpersonal relationships.

SCP-XXXX can be copied onto any device capable of saving audio files without losing its anomalous properties. It can also be transmitted by any device capable of picking up audio without losing its anomalous properties.

Class B amnesiacs have been proven to be effective at treating exposures to SCP-XXXX up to 24 hours after affliction. If amnesiacs are administered any later than 24 hours the subject will remain affected and must be terminated or quarantined until self-termination.

Addendum SCP-XXXX-01: A request to have SCP-XXXX placed on a CD for ease of use in testing has been submitted. At this time it has been decided that SCP-XXXX shall remain in its current format to help decrease the possibility of accidental playing. Most of us have devices capable of reading CDs near us all the time. The number of us with similar access to cassette players is far fewer. Dr. ██████████

Addendum SCP-XXXX-02: Great care must be taken to insure no copies of SCP-XXXX exist outside foundation control, I don’t think it needs to be said what how serious it might be for this to be played at a major sporting event or, god help us, the internet. Dr. ██████████

Addendum SCP-XXXX-03: SCP-XXXX was initially discovered in 19██ in the small town of (DATA REDACTED) after the Foundation heard reports of a large number of people in (DATA REDACTED) going nuts and killing family members. Agents were dispatched to the area where they found all the citizens dead and SCP-XXXX being broadcast from speakers placed around the town. The agents were affected and after (DATA REDACTED) the surviving agents were captured with the only remaining copy of SCP-XXXX while on their way to their respective hometowns. Class B amnesiacs were successfully administered and the agents returned to duty.
