Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Only those with Level 3 clearance and above may have access to SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX must be kept in a Foundation-standard refrigerated biological storage at Bio-Research Site-██. Level 3 Biohazard Protocols are to be in effect at all times. Should personnel show symptoms of SCP-XXXX infection, immediate quarantine is to be established and Site-██ to enter lock-down. As SCP-XXXX infection cannot be halted, a biological containment cell measuring 6m x 6m x 4m must be prepared for any infected personnel. Any instance of SCP-XXXX-A is to be incinerated unless used for testing, as merely touching the instance unprotected is grounds for SCP-XXXX transmission.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an extremely rare and unusually contagious1 virus of the family Orthomyxoviridae that invariably causes the infected individual to painfully develop growths on either the left or right side of the individual's body, despite these growths being atypical of any strain of Orthomyxoviridae. These growths eventually separate from the subject, and begin mitosis increasing in mass until they fuse together and gives the exact appearance of a second instance of the subject, hereby classified SCP-XXXX-A. The process of this replication is not fully understood, but testing has shown that a sudden appearance of stem cells appears in the subject's brain and vital organs, supporting cellular health and preventing expiration in ~80% of infected subjects, likely to preserve any chance of exposure. DNA tests are largely inconclusive, but have shown that the cells in SCP-XXXX-A show absolutely no cellular activity except for the nervous system2.

SCP-XXXX-A mimics the subject's actions in a mirrored position, for example, if the subject raises their left arm, SCP-XXXX-A will raise its right arm. SCP-XXXX-A is not sentient and has not been observed to move of its own accord, despite having its own "brain activity"3. The results of a vivisection of an SCP-XXXX-A specimen shows an exact inversion of the human tissue structure, most notably with the heart being on the SCP-XXXX-A's right side.

Addendum-XXXX-1: Additional testing has shown that only SCP-500 can prevent the SCP-XXXX replication process, however, this is considered an unnecessary use of precious resources. Usage of SCP-500 to cure SCP-XXXX is not currently advised at this time.

Addendum-XXXX-2: After controlled observation of SCP-XXXX-A instances, it has been found that it will always retain a "mirrored" appearance, even in situations where it would be moved from its position by external forces. For example, in a situation where a D-class subject is standing in the center of a 6m x 6m x 5m room with a completely intact floor, the corresponding instance of SCP-XXXX-A standing in a similar room but with the left-most half of the floor displaced 6 inches downward, will retain its position of standing up straight as if its left foot4 is still touching a "floor".
