SCP-####-1

Item #: SCP-####

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-####-1 is to be kept in a safe at Site-58. This safe should not be opened under any circumstances, except for testing purposes. X-ray imaging or another method that does not require opening the safe must be used to confirm its continued presence if it is suspected that SCP-####-1 has exited the safe of its own accord or been removed. The safe has been placed under 24 hour surveillance to ensure it is not opened from the outside or inside. SCP-####-1 may not be brought within 20 kilometers of any Keter-class object that may be sentient for any reason.

If SCP-####-1 is missing, surveillance cameras or other indirect means must be used to locate SCP-####-1 and blindfolded personnel must retrieve it and return it to its safe. Personnel returning SCP-####-1 to containment must be monitored by surveillance cameras and transmitted instructions through headphones to guide them to SCP-####-1 and back to its safe. All on-site personnel not involved with retrieval must be restrained from contact with SCP-####-1 to avoid accidental eye contact with it.

Testing with SCP-#### has been approved but only if no fewer than 2 blindfolded guards are present to retrieve SCP-####-A after it reappears. At least 25 separately caged vertebrate animals of any kind must be within 50 meters of SCP-####-1's expected spot of disappearance, as SCP-#### seems to prefer targets that are near, but this is by no means a rule. Only one unblindfolded test subject may be in the vicinity of SCP-####-1 at a time, and at least two separately wired surveillance cameras must monitor all tests. By order of O5-█ following tests ####-3 and ####-4, no explosives may be used while testing SCP-####, and its reappearance may not be obstructed. All personnel not performing any role in testing must be 200 meters away from the testing area.

Description: SCP-####-1 is a humanoid-shaped statue approximately 1.2 meters in height, made of stone of unknown origin. The object has been observed moving on its own in ways such as rotating its head or walking, but it cannot move very quickly, and is easily physically restrained. To date it has not been observed walking faster than 0.3 kilometers per hour or completing a 180-degree rotation of its head in less than 9 seconds. The object seems to attempt to move in a way that would cause it to make eye contact with any person in its vicinity.

SCP-####-1 is activated when eye contact is made between SCP-####-1 and a human. When this happens, both SCP-####-1 and whoever made eye contact with it will instantly vanish, then reappear in the same spot between 25 and ███ seconds later. See Document ####-2 for a log of known locations of SCP-#### between disappearance and reappearance. The person who activated the object (hereafter SCP-####-2) will proceed to attempt to release a nearby captive person, animal, or intelligent SCP. Instances of SCP-####-2 will appear to be in a trance until they have successfully freed their target, after which they have no memory of what they did or where they were taken when they initially vanished. 100% of recorded attempts have been successful, though not all instances of SCP-####-2 have survived the aftermath of their respective incidents, and not all released targets remained free for a meaningful length of time. A notable example of the former is Incident ####-█, in which Agent ███████ was mauled to death by three rottweilers shortly after simultaneously freeing them by opening the back door of a parked pickup truck.

When freeing animals or other lightly secured targets, instances of SCP ####-2 usually simply walk up to the target's cage or gate and open it. However, when the target is more heavily secured, instances of SCP ####-2 have used tactics that would require and extremely detailed knowledge of the area from which they are freeing their target and/or precognition, such as choosing routes where there were momentary lapses in security and using any available objects as weapons against guards or as battering rams to break through areas of walls where they would be the weakest.

Controlled tests were performed to determine where instances of SCP-####-2 go when they disappear and if they can be stopped from freeing a target. Personnel with Level 4 Clearance may view Document ####-2 for a log of these tests.

Addendum ####-1: The Foundation learned of SCP-####-1 when a prison in [REDACTED] reported a ███% higher rate of prisoner escapes when compared to prisons with similar security procedures and construction. Foundation personnel investigated the prison, where SCP-####-1 was found in a basement. During the initial discovery and subsequent transportation to Site-58, the object was inadvertently activated ██ times due to the lack of understanding of its nature, resulting in the release of █ inmates from various prisons, 14 captive animals of various species, and a kidnapped child who was previously assumed to be dead. The object also caused a security breach at Site-██ by releasing SCP-████, resulting in the deaths of ██ on-site personnel before it could be returned to containment. A Class-B amnesiac has been administered to anyone at the prison where the object was found who had knowledge of its existence. A log of accidental activations can be found in document ####-1.

Addendum ####-2: One week after containment, the door of the safe containing SCP-#### was visibly bulging in one corner. There is no immediate threat of a containment breach, but a request has been made for a stronger safe to be made readily available in case the first is compromised.

Addendum ####-3: The Foundation has received requests to use SCP-#### to free high-priority hostages and kidnapped persons. All requests of this nature are to be denied due to the random nature of SCP-####’s choice of targets and the difficulty of ensuring that there are no additional unintended activations of SCP-####-1.
