Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a 10mx10mx3m hermetically sealed room furnished to provide basic accommodation. NO VENTILATION IS ALLOWED with a single CO2 scrubber present to provide breathable oxygen. As of ██/██/20██ ventilation is permitted as long as it's carefully sealed upon SCP-1999XX-2's termination and is not connected to the site's main air duct system. This room is to be located within an empty chamber overlooked by a security station with at least one (1) foundation personnel at any moment while SCP-XXXX is without a host. Any and all abnormalities, as well as structural damage to the containment, must be reported to the Site Director without delay. No less than every forty (40) days Procedure 73-Temple is to be conducted.

Procedure 73-Temple requires a single unassisted D-Class personnel, who should be blindfolded (optional; precaution in order to reduce distress) and instructed to enter SCP-XXXX's containment. The subject is to interact with SCP-XXXX-1. As soon as physical contact is made subject is considered an instance of SCP-XXXX-2. At this point, five (5) foundation personnel are to enter containment, restrain SCP-XXXX-2, dispose of the remains of the previous instance of SCP-XXXX-2 and stock the subject with 30 days worth of supplies. SCP-XXXX-2 is to be put (forcefully or willingly) into the inner room, which should be shut until Procedure 73-Temple needs to be conducted again. Urgent care must be taken that the subject is not physically harmed during the procedure. SCP-XXXX-2 is to remain in its containment and should not be allowed to leave it for any reason other than experiments approved by Level 2 4 clearance research staff.

Description: SCP-XXXX is an air-bourne agent capable of infecting any living organism from the mammaliaforms clade. It has been documented to behave differently outside and while possessing a host. These instances are respectively called SCP-XXXX-1 and SCP-XXX-2.

SCP-XXXX-1 resembles a crimson cloud when examined by the naked eye, but is in fact comprised of tiny [REDACTED] (hereafter referred to as cells). Any attempt to analyze the agent was proven futile as any cells physically removed from the rest of the population dissolve into [DATA EXPUNGED] causing significant damage to personnel and/or equipment involved. Their red hue comes from what appears to be their last victim's tissue covering their outer shell. This encasing is present on all cells - even ones created after termination and disposal of SCPXXX-2. The means by which SCP-XXXX-1 creates said tissue or by which it remains in the air is unknown. These cells replicate at· a rate of [REDACTED] and slowly drift towards a suitable host if one is present within 20 meters.

SCP-XXXX infection occurs when a suitable host physically touches any cell of which SCP-XXXX-1 is comprised. Direct dermal tissue contact shows the fastest response, although hair and scar tissue infections have also been recorded. Once contact with compatible tissue is made, all of SCP-XXXX-1 produces a near silent hissing noise and dissolves into basic chemical elements1. No other components were shown to dispense, but it is assumed that there are more compounds that make SCP-XXXX. From this point SCP-XXXX-1 is neutralized and the subject that made physical contact with the cloud is now considered an instance of SCP-XXXX-2. The primary effect of SCP-XXXX's infection appears to be instantaneous.

There are two distinct phases of SCP-XXXX infection:

  • Phase 1: During the first 48 hours, the subject shows signs of paranoia and schizophrenia, reporting that certain objects within their place of living have been recently altered or removed entirely. These delusions seem to be entirely unjustified as testing shown no object changing place under anomalous effects of SCP-XXXX. If an individual is not present in their home during the entirety of this infection phase none of these symptoms manifests.
  • Phase 2: Almost exactly 48 hours after initial infection all aforementioned symptoms will cease and the second phase begins. This phase does not have a discernible pattern to its length although it always results in the termination of the subject. If the subject closes his eyes he experiences vivid sensory hallucinations manifesting as "growths crawling from *his* temples towards *his* eyeballs"2. This will, in turn, disable one's ability to sleep and will even hinder blinking patterns. During the course of this phase, the subject will become more and more fatigued, dull and generally detached. It's unknown whether this comes as a side effect of sleep deprivation or is another symptom of SCP-XXXX infection. This will continue for another 30-50 days3, provided that none of the subject's major blood vessels are damaged and exposed. If that happens at any time during the infection (including phase 1) subject's blood will vaporize and a cloud of SCP-XXXX (designated as a new instance of SCP-XXXX-1) will emerge from the subject's body. However, if the bloodstream of SCP-XXXX-2 stays closed SCP-XXXX will eventually concentrate in the subject's Occipital Bone causing enormous pressure and bursting from him as a cloud of SCP-1999. No attempts to revive the subject after SCP-XXXX leaves their body were successful.

Effects of SCP-XXXX on animals is much the same with the first phase either absent or reduced to simple excitement in an animal's usual habitat. Lack of sleep and tiredness persists in all instances.
