SCP-XXXX

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained in a standard combination lockbox with the security code only known to level 3 personnel. Only level 2 personnel with authorisation from one level 3 personnel can experiment with SCP-XXXX.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a Nintendo Game Boy Micro in a moderate state of disrepair. The faceplate (protective screen) has been damaged and been reattatched with tape, there is a considerable amount of dust and dirt under the faceplate, the headphone slot is nonfunctional, the LED lights in the 'Select' and 'Start' buttons do not function, and sound produced by the console is slightly muffled with a small amount of static. The charging port has also been damaged via physical attack with a small, sharp object, most likely a screwdriver. However, due to SCP-XXXX's properties, it does not need charging. All attempts to dismantle the object or remove the tape have been unsuccessful.

SCP-XXXX was recovered in ██████, Britain, after a resident had commited suicide via slicing his own jugular vein with a knife. Police reported that SCP-XXXX was present on a table in the kitchen where the victim had comitted suicide, making very faint but audible laughing and cackling noises, and also displaying the message "He looked too far. >:)". The police report was intercepted by Agent ████, the police reports were removed and replaced with false evidence, all police members involved in the investigation were given class B amnesiacs, and SCP-XXXX was recovered without incident.

When a Game Boy Advance cartridge is inserted and turned on, SCP-XXXX functions as a normal Game Boy Micro, except with the hindrances stated above. It can run with no problematic issues for around 50 to 60 minutes until it ceases to function, afterwards needing 8 hours to recharge. It does not function during this charging period.

SCP-XXXX's anomalous effects begin to occur approximately 15 minutes whilst being used. Anyone using the object for its intended purpose feel a compulsion to look under the lower-left part of the faceplate, which is noticeably not as well secured down as the rest of the faceplate. Due to the compulsion being weak, it can easily be overcome with some effort. The compulsion gradually becomes stronger the longer the object is used, but is is never completely overwhelming. Motivation for looking under the faceplate seems to generally be that it is 'annoying' or 'uncomfortable'. Subjects who play games on SCP-XXXX comment that the game feels 'hollow', 'dark' or 'bleak', however there is no noticeable difference between playing a game on SCP-XXXX and another Nintendo Game Boy Micro console.

Reports of what subjects see tends to very, however the most common encounter is a portion of a face (usually the eyes and top portion of the nose) looking at the subject, with either crimson red or milky white eye with a black outline. Subject's reactions are mostly fear, shock, and confusion, but in 100% of cases all reactions cause the subject to remove the faceplate's opening from their gaze, either through recoiling their head, closing their eyes, or dropping the object. Short-term side-effects include but are not limited to paranoia and auditory hallucinations comprised of inaudible whispering and childish giggling. These side effects subside within 30 to 60 minutes. This starts the first stage of 'infection'. Infection by SCP-XXXX progresses in predictable 'stages' as follows:

On ██/██/███, a Nintendo DS Rumble Pack with a bandaid covering the front side, with the word 'ANSWER' written on the bandaid in rough handwriting arrived in Dr. █████'s office, who was researching SCP-XXXX at the time. It is unknown how the object arrived or was placed there. Despite being made with intention for function only with a Nintendo DS, the cartridge (herby SCP-XXXX-A) does fit into Nintendo Game Boy Advance's and variations, including SCP-XXXX. SCP-XXXX-A is not recognised by any Nintendo consoles, however when inserted into SCP-XXXX and the power is turned on, the following text is displayed: [Moved to Log SCP-XXXX-02]
