the mist after dusk( SCP- 5961)

Item#: SCP - 5961

Object Class: Euclid Keter

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be located in a Airtight Cell, 15m by 16m by 15m, the exterior of the cell is to be constructed of granite polycarbonate. Absolutely no lighting is permitted in the cell, as this may set off the objects anomalous properties. Viewing of the containment area is to be conducted via infrared cameras transmitted wirelessly to the viewing room, which is to be located at least 10 meters away from cell containing SCP-XXXX. No personnel are allowed within 9 meters of XXXX, as are any vetrebrates possessive of higher mental capabilities.

Should XXXX come within contact of a person, said person is to be terminated by long range weaponry. This is to prevent spread of instances of SCP-XXXX-1. Should this procedure fail to be properly executed, site-[[div]]22[[/div] is to undergo full lock down due to a containment breach. To recontain 5961 operation 5568-alpha is to be reenacted with all MTF members using prefrontal-cognitive suppression-helmets as to halt spread of XXXX-1. All personnel afflicted by 5961 are to be treated as potential threats until proper mental anti-stimulates are administered. 5961-1 can be destroyed by means of excessive physical damage, but will continue to reappear until those afflicted are cured psychologically. After all personnel have taken their required anti-stimulates SCP-XXXX is considered recontained. At this point XXXX is considered recontained and may be placed in it's containment area without further catastrophe. Should the resultant mist linger after recontainment, there is no need to panic as this will dissipate after XXXX is recontained.

Personnel observing SCP-XXXX are to wear prefrontal-cognitive suppression-helmets as long as they remain within the approximate distance of 0.1 kilometers. After prolonged exposure to XXXX's vicinity, all involved are due to be tested to see if any of the mental effects are present. Under no circumstances is testing to be conducted as of [REDACTED] indirect testing approved by site director is possible.

Description:SCP-XXXX is a copy of the book "The mist", by the author Stephen King. This appears to be an ordinary book in all reasons, when not near a human being.

When exposed to a sentient humanoid with at least partial literacy, the SCP emits a grey mist with no notable properties excluding its existence. If said humanoid approaches within 8.5 meters of XXXX then the anomalous properties begin to surface. When interviewed subjects stated that they had acute feelings of being watchedas they approached the object. Upon seeing the SCP the subject, now referred to as SCP-XXXX-2, will begin hearing auditory hallucinations. After several seconds of this feeling, shadowy figures begin to manifest themselves in the mist. As the auditory hallucinations become louder, the figures become more distinct and edge closer. After several minutes of this, the figures are converted into matter and take on the appearance of impossibly emaciated, and extremely tall(up to 4 meters) pale humanoids with claws measuring approximately 1 meter long. Upon transmutation into matter figures(XXX-1) will become hostile, and viciously attack XXXX-2, until XXXX-2 is terminated, proper anti-stimulates are administered or XXXX-1 is destroyed by physical contusions. If XXXX-2 is terminated all instances of XXXX-1 cease to exist, until another humanoid approaches the SCP.

XXXX was discovered in 200X in the abandoned town library of 000000 Montana, by embedded agent John H. 000000000 after [REDACTED]. Agent 00000000 learned of the SCP's presence after multiple murders near the abandoned town library, after police disappeared during an investigation, 00000000 notified the foundation and a containment team was sent to investigiate.

It is theorized by multiple class-4 personnel that XXXX only affects those creatures that possess the ability to experience higher thought, such as comprehensive reading, and terror. Since a correspondence between brain activity and the effects of XXXX .This is based upon the results of testing with trained animals and D-classes, after instance-10653-E. However, no literate D-classes have been able to read the contents of the book, as they become unresponsive to external stimuli as the first effects infest themselves.

It is important to understand as SCP-XXXX-2 spreads so does the anomalous mist, and with the mist spreads, SCP-XXXX-1 spreads as well. 00 people have been killed as a result of SCP-XXXX-1.Due to the potential spread of SCP-XXXX-1, It has been reclassified as Keter as of X/X/200X.
