SCP-XXXX The Princess' Flute

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be kept in a 4” x 9” containment crate which is sealed with a standard padlock and kept within a light storage area at Site A. The key is to be kept secured on a key ring and kept on the Senior Researcher’s person at all times while on duty. SCP-XXXX maybe be removed from containment and played outside of the site’s boundaries as a means to boost morale and relieve stress, at the Senior Researcher’s discretion, however SCP-XXXX is not to be played from anywhere inside of Site A under any circumstances.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a woodwind measuring 0.4” wide and 8” long, comprised of a hollow shaft and mouthpiece, seemingly carved out of single piece of maple wood. SCP-XXXX has 6 finger holes along the top of the shaft, with another on the bottom, allowing for a range of notes to be played. SCP-XXXX plays identically to a regular instrument, and shows no anomalous properties in terms of the instruments sound and reception.

SCP-XXXX manifests its anomalous properties when the instrument is played. All mammals within an unknown area congregate towards the player, gathering in a large group around the instrument. Animals of species commonly referred to as “woodland creatures” have been observed roaming towards the instrument including, but not limited to; Foxes, birds, squirrels, dogs, cats, badgers, mice, rats and bears.

The song being played by SCP-XXXX’s player does not seem to affect which animals gather as tests using different sounds, including well known songs as well as one continuous note. Animals that gather around SCP-XXXX display unusually docile behavior while a song is being played. Bears will interact with animals usually considered prey, and show abnormal trust and interaction with humans, especially the player. It is important to note that humans remain unaffected by all music so far produced by SCP-XXXX.

When SCP-XXXX ceases to be played, all gathered animals will remain in the area for 3 to 7 minutes before dispersing and returning to their usual activities. It is advisable that all personnel exercise caution during this time, as the docile nature induced by SCP-XXXX’s effects can lift somewhat suddenly. See incident log SCP-XXXX-A for a list of incidents involving SCP-XXXX and the animals it entices.

SCP-XXXX was recovered from [REDACTED] National Park in [REDACTED] after reports of a larger number of animals grouping around guests who had found SCP-XXXX and began to play it. Cover stories and amnestics were distributed.
