SCP-XXXX - Take a Number

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: SafeEuclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX must be kept in an enclosed plexiglass box which must be locked at all times. This enclosure should be kept in a secured room with security cameras fixed on SCP-XXXX at all times. At least one camera should be facing SCP-XXXX’s front at an angle and zoom so as to monitor unusual activity. Access to SCP-XXXX is currently restricted and all testing has been discontinued and may only resume based on a majority vote of the Overseers.

Anyone who has been recently exposed to SCP-XXXX or who has been in contact with someone who has been exposed shall be immediately transferred to the medical bay for observation. Skin to skin contact should not be made to anyone who has been exposed to SCP-XXXX.

Note from Dr. ███ ██████:
Collect any tickets taken from SCP-XXXX and cross reference to the former patient. We need to put a cap on this as quickly as possible. See the amended form and please keep your paperwork organized - the last thing we want is to get our numbers mixed up.

Physical Description: SCP-XXXX resembles a standard red ticket dispenser for a “Take a Number” system. Tests have concluded that the outer casing is made of non-anomalous plastic and small bits of metal. Despite bearing no apparent special qualities, attempted to disassemble or dissect SCP-XXXX have failed, as simple tools cannot penetrate it and there is no simple means of opening it. Tickets dispersed by SCP-XXXX display a number from 01 to 6775 in red ink on a die cut piece of white paper. It does not appear that SCP-XXXX ever runs out of paper or ink, and can distribute tickets perpetually without maintenance.

Example of SCP-XXXX-1

Attainment: SCP-XXXX was discovered at an urgent medical care facility in ███████, Wisconsin. The object came to the attention of the Foundation when family of Agt. ██████ ███████ visited the site complaining of severe migraines. When the migraines sporadically ceased despite no medication being given, Agt. ███████ reported the occurrence to the Foundation. SCP-XXXX was removed by personnel posing as standard maintenance workers and a non-anomalous replacement was offered. Ongoing observation has noted that a spike in new patients no longer receive the healing effects, therefore the site itself does not seem to be related to SCP-XXXX’s effects.

Note from Dr. ███████ █████:
Cease all testing, trials, and any casual access to SCP-XXXX immediately.

Note from Dr. ███████ █████:
All personnel who have been exposed to SCP-XXXX-1 are to report to the medical bay for observation and interrogation immediately. All personnel assigned to SCP-XXXX except for those assigned to watch duty are to report for emergency containment procedure changes and briefing.

REVISED Anomaly Description as of ██/██/199█: Any person who pulls a ticket from SCP-XXXX will find any sickness regardless of severity is completely cured within a number of hours equal to the number on the ticket. A person who is exposed to the effects of SCP-XXXX-1 is hereby referred to as SCP-XXXX-0. Connecting skin with another human has a potential to transfer any illness regardless of actual contagions to that person. This transfer will happen to the first person an instance of SCP-XXXX-0 touches after the final hour.

After contact, the illness will remain dormant or not manifest until a number of hours after that contact equal to the number displayed on the original ticket. The amount of time since the final hour does not appear to hinder the transfer. Whoever the illness is transferred too will begin to feel symptoms immediately following the final hour of the transfer time. ██% of sufferers report symptoms which appear to be a degree of magnitude worse than the original illness. These sicknesses can be cured by taking another ticket from SCP-XXXX, however, the next transfer will increase the severity of symptoms even further.

Tests of this effect have shown that instances of SCP-XXXX-0 exhibit unusual behavior towards those whom they have transferred their illness to, regardless of whether they have been made aware of the transfer effect. Observations have shown subjects treating transfer victims with disdain and dismissal, often denying their symptoms are real or accusing them of wanting sympathy. This occurs regardless of the personality of the SCP-XXXX-0 instance or the relationship they have with the transfer victim.

Attempts to treat transferred illnesses with traditional and homeopathic methods are approximately 50% less successful than for typical illnesses. Treatment failure is more likely the more times an illness has been transferred and for more severe illnesses.

Note by Dr. ███ ██████:
We need to find and recover any civilians who were exposed to SCP-XXXX during the health trials now. I don’t care how much amnesic we have to use to make this happen. I’m cutting off all access to SCP-XXXX in the meantime, even for testing purposes - our top priority is fixing this mess.

On ██/██/200█, personnel assigned to monitor SCP-XXXX observed unusual behavior documented below.

At about 03:00, SCP-XXXX began to distribute tickets without any provocation. All tickets distributed displayed either a number 0 or a sideways “sad face” similar to its usual “smile” ticket. SCP-XXXX distributed about 12 of these tickets before going back to its normal static statement. These tickets have remained in the cell and will not be collected unless otherwise ordered. Please advise.
