Item #: SCP – 2203

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Due to its extreme size and position in orbit, containment of SCP-2203 is unfeasible in all but suppression of knowledge. Satellite monitoring of SCP-2203 is conducted on a 24 hour basis. At minimum, two specialists are required per eight hour shift in reviewing satellite information. Any electromagnetic changes or further structural anomalies (see Addendum 2203-2) require immediate notification to supervisory staff.

All data received by Foundation satellites of SCP-2203 shall be measured in non-visual data only. Any attempt at visual observation of SCP-2203 by staff shall require immediate quarantine, observation, and, if necessary, destruction. Notification of civilian witnesses will result in the deployment of a Foundation extraction team to apprehend them, subjecting them to similar quarantine methods as stated above.

Description: SCP-2203 is an immense ring of an as yet unknown material that extends around the Earth. It has a stable orbit in the MEO Zone, spinning longways at approximately 12.6 hours per rotation. It has measured at 25,288 miles in diameter with the band only 88 miles in width.

As of yet, no measurable thermodynamic or gravitational effects have been attributed to SCP-2203. Physical descriptions have proved unreliable, save that the object is inherently transparent at best, as it is not capable of being seen with the naked eye. It can be viewed, however, through the infrared spectrum, though any attempt to observe it in this manner has proven disastrous.

The exact date of its arrival or appearance is currently unknown, though the first recorded incident relating to SCP-2203 was on ██ / ██ / 19██ at the ██████ Observatory. The bodies of the astronomers were found with [DATA EXPUNGED], evidence showing the wounds were self-inflicted.

All equipment within the observatory had been confiscated by the Foundation and examined for evidence. Several more deaths of Foundation researchers – all with similar self-inflicted wounding - after examining the equipment data prompted future scrutiny. The desire for self-mutilation seems to be immediate, with victims displaying signs of panic, screaming, aggression, and [DATA EXPUNGED]. Some who were affected actually turned on those who were not, causing serious maiming, [DATA EXPUNGED], and death.

It is not yet known what has been the cause of these bouts of panic (possible revision: see Addendum 2203-2), but all further measurements, including actual discovery of SCP-2203 and its nature, have been determined in non-visual data only.

Any attempt at actual contact with SCP-2203 has proven unsuccessful, so classification as a sentient object remains currently unconfirmed.

Addendum 2203-1: Out latest D-class batch to observe SCP-2203 has proven somewhat of a breakthrough. Yes, they all still killed themselves in rather horrible fashions, but, one of them lived long enough to scrape out a note on the wall with his own blood: “IT SEES US TOO.” We’ve yet to interpret, but we’ve decided to allow more D-class involvement for possible repeated results. – Dr. █████████

Addendum 2203-2: Oh God. What have I done? Truth is the bane of all curiosity. We are living an illusion. The ring is a window of Truth!

This window does not exist for us. It never has!

Yes, we can see into it. Why not?

But, Jesus…

IT SEES US TOO.

Addendum 2203-3: I’ve debated on expunging Addendum 2203-2 written by Dr. █████████ above (written immediately before his self-termination), but have ultimately ruled leaving it in and documenting it as evidence on the variable effects of SCP-2203. – Dr. Maenz

Item #: SCP – 2203

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: Due to its size and multiple positions in orbit, containment of SCP-2203 is unfeasible in all but suppression of knowledge. Satellite monitoring of SCP-2203 is conducted on a 24 hour basis. At minimum, two specialists are required per eight hour shift in reviewing satellite information. Any electromagnetic changes or further structural anomalies (see Addendum 2203-C) require immediate notification to supervisory staff.

Description: SCP-2203 is a series of rings (four have been accounted for; uncertain if others remain undetected) of an as of yet unknown material that surround around the Earth. Each have a stable orbit in the MEO Zone, at approximately 12.6 hours per complete rotation, regardless of their varying distances. Their sizes vary, with the closest (labelled for reference as SCP-2203-1) reading as small as 12 meters in diameter, growing in size the further out they are. The largest known variant of SCP-2203 (labelled for reference as SCP-2203-4) is also the furthest away, measuring at 1,728 meters in diameter.

As of yet, no measurable thermodynamic or gravitational effects have been attributed to SCP-2203 in any of its individual components. Physical descriptions have proved unreliable, save that the objects are inherently transparent at best, as it is not capable of being seen with the naked eye. It can be viewed, however, through the ultraviolet spectrum at a strictly specific wavelength of █████ nanometers. Any attempt to observe it in this or any other manner (See Addendum 2203-C) has proven disastrous.

Though the center of each ring of SCP-2203 appear to be hollow, speculation has arisen to the validity of this observation. Observational data has shown

Addendum 2203-A: Out latest D-class batch to observe SCP-2203 has proven somewhat of a breakthrough. Yes, they all still killed themselves in rather horrible fashions, but, one of them lived long enough to scrape out a note on the wall with his own blood: “WATCHING” We’ve yet to interpret, but we’ve decided to allow more D-class involvement for possible repeated results. – Dr. █████████

Addendum 2203-B: It has come to my attention that recent findings from an entirely unrelated retrieval mission has what may be evidence pertaining to SCP-2203.
Addendum 2203-C: //Oh God. What have I done? Truth is the bane of all curiosity. We are living an illusion. The ring is a window of Truth!

This window does not exist for us. It never has!
