Item #: SCP-X

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-X is to be kept in a well-lit three meter by four meter room that has access to at least one electrical outlet, into which it should be plugged into, at all times. An emergency power system is located within the adjacent testing cubicle to provide a constant flow of electricity to SCP-X in the event of a Site wide power outage. SCP-X's containment cell should under no circumstances have any viewing windows in which any one person may view SCP-X when active.

(See Incident 1-A for further containment procedures in the event of relocation).

Two surveillance cameras are to be positioned in SCP-X's containment cell during testing: one facing SCP-X's screen, and one facing the testing subject viewing SCP-X.

Level 1 clearance is required for basic access to SCP-X during its inactive stage. Under no circumstance should any unauthorized personnel view SCP-X during its active stage.

Should anyone view SCP-X during its active stage unintentionally, the affected subject should be immediately removed from the cell and sent for psychological evaluation. The affected subject will then have mandatory twice weekly evaluations until it is proven the effects of SCP-X have not taken hold, after which time the affected subject will be denied future access to SCP-X's containment chamber.

Description: SCP-X is a 42' [REDACTED] flatscreen television purchased originally from an outlet store in █████, Iowa, by a Mr. █████. SCP-X has been in the possession of three families who all experienced the similar effects of SCP-X before leaving their property, as well as all their belongings, due to severe panic, sleeplessness, and depression. After the homes were swept by local authorities, the families refused to return as long as SCP-X was on the premises.

Viewing of SCP-X while powered on is considered its inactive state and may be safely used. When SCP-X is powered off, leaving a vaguely reflective black screen, it becomes active and SCP-X-1 appears.

SCP-X-1 is reported as being a deformed humanoid with indistinguishable features that exists only in the reflection of SCP-X's screen. Any attempt to catch SCP-X-1 in video recording has thus far been unsuccessful.

Stages of SCP-X's activity range from 1 to 3.
Characterization of each stage can be known by the following:

Stage One — Up to 10 minutes of viewing:

  • Short glimpses of movement in SCP-X's reflection
  • The affected subject reports hearing movement behind them and to their sides.
  • Subject(s) begins to experience mild uneasiness.

Stage Two — 10 minutes to 20 minutes of viewing:

  • Subject(s) report seeing SCP-X-1 appear behind them in the reflection of SCP-X before quickly disappearing.
  • SCP-X-1 disappears and reappears for short amounts of time.
  • Subject(s) report heightened paranoia.

Stage Three — 20 minutes to 30 minutes of viewing:

  • Subject(s) experience lasting fear of SCP-X-1 after being removed from SCP-X's containment cell.
  • SCP-X-1 has been reported to reappear more frequently and closer to the subject's reflection causing the subject(s) to experience intense fear.
  • If restrained, subject(s) will undergo self-harm in order to escape SCP-X's containment cell, including, but not limited to: self-mutilation, breaking teeth while biting through restraints, and snapping the bones in their fingers and/or limbs (in attempt to pry open the door of SCP-X's containment cell).

All subject(s) experiencing stage three of SCP-X's effects should be immediately taken to the eastern medical wing and remain under suicide watch until approval of treatment is given.

After every test, SCP-X must be turned on by a remote switch located in the testing cubicle attached to SCP-X's containment cell. Once SCP-X is powered on, SCP-X-1 will disappear from the screen and only reappear once SCP-X returns to an active state. If subject(s) cannot perform their daily duties after viewing SCP-X in its active state, Class-A amnesiacs may be distributed under the discretion of Dr. ████.

Incident 1-A:

10-12-████
time stamp: 14:00

During relocation to Site ██, SCP-X was left uncovered in the possession of nine unnamed facility staff. During the time of transit, all personnel began experiencing early stage 2 activity. Upon reaching their destination, the staff refused to enter the containment cell of SCP-X to finalize the transfer. Five of the aforementioned personnel were issued Class-A amnesiacs, the other four were transferred to Site ██.
Due to these events, it has been made mandatory to completely cover SCP-X during any relocation. If the staff were to have been around SCP-X in its active state for any longer, they may have come to an agreement of disposing of SCP-X despite the serious repercussions they would face upon arriving to Site ██.

Despite what affected staff may think, the safest place for SCP-X is in the Foundation's hands.

Incident Log 1-B:
01-20-████
time stamp: 17:30

Agent ████, the on-site guard of SCP-X's containment cell, was found dead today in the eastern wing shower room. Upon arrival at his quarters, two hundred and thirty-seven charcoal drawings were found (See diagram 1b). Researchers believe Agent ████ had been experiencing stage 3 of SCP-X's effects without seeking medical attention. All staff involved in the containment of SCP-X shall now have a mandatory evaluation at the end of every week. Any staff believed to be affected by SCP-X will be rotated to another subject or be given Class A amnesiacs.
