SCP: Sticks and stones

Keter

Special Containment Procedure

SCP-XXXX is kept in a 5m by 5m , padded, soundproof cell, at site ██,
with its current host human, which from now on will be referred to as SCP-XXXX-01. The cell is outfitted with motion sensors that detect the location of SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-01. All video and audio recordings are stored in a vault in a secure location. Only senior officers may access the recordings for any purpose. Food is delivered from a separate area of site ██ by conveyor belt through a soundproof tunnel. The conveyor belt tunnel itself travels underground and absolutely no sound can be received from the cell on the other side. If SCP-XXXX-01 shows suicidal inclinations then it is to be held under restraints, and sedated if necessary.

All personal working in proximity to SCP-XXXX are required to undergo mental tests before serving. Those who are determined to be overly curious or psychologically weak in any way are not posted in close proximity to SCP-XXXX. In addition to this, deaf or even blind individuals are preferred.

Description
SCP-XXXX was originally discovered in 19██
in south korea in the ruins of Seonjeongneung by a group of archeologists. A class amnesiacs were administered to all archeologists involved, and all those who encountered SCP-XXXX afterwards. A total of 53 doses were administered. 15 to the archeologists themselves, 29 to their families, and 10 to other individuals who encountered SCP-XXXX or SCP-XXXX-01. The book was found locked inside of a box made of human bones, along with other books relating to the supernatural. These other books disappeared under mysterious circumstances soon after being found. Examination of the book and research on the area where it was hidden, lead by Dr. ██████,
revealed that it was not native to the area. Soil tests of dirt smudges on the cover revealed that the book originated from England in the 1600’s
SCP-XXXX is a dark, well worn leather bound book with the words “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words may never hurt me” inscribed on the front cover. On the back is inscribed “Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil”. The book is locked tightly with a chain made of silver that connects to a pad made of human bone on the front of the cover in the middle of the left side. The lock and chain are currently thought to be indestructible, as they were not broken when tested with with a thousand pounds of pressure on a high quality carbon steel blade, or a focused laser. From the spine of the book hangs a 3mm thick rope with human teeth braided in at 2cm intervals. When observed under a microscope the teeth do not appear to have DNA. SCP-XXXX has also been reported to release whispering sounds that are not obstructed by any soundproofing available. Those who hear the whisperings are often drawn to SCP-XXXX and will attempt to enter it’s cell. For this reason, two keys are necessary to open SCP-XXXX’s cell, each in the possession of a different doctor on site. The urge to approach SCP-XXXX lessens over the time that the individual is separated from the SCP, and will eventually completely fade, until said victim is re-introduced to SCP-XXXX.

SCP-XXXX attaches itself to a host through visual or auditory means. If an individual views SCP-XXXX or hears SCP-XXXX-01, then this person has the potential to be joined to SCP-XXXX as the new SCP-XXXX-01. In either event, the new host will not be affected until that night when they enter REM sleep. At this time he/she will be afflicted by what have been assumed to be nightmares, as SCP-XXXX-01s convulse in their sleep and will occasionally scream or cry out, always waking up at exactly 6:00. Those exposed to SCP-XXXX through visual means are only affected if they have flaws in their psychological stability, while all exposed to SCP-XXXX-01 through auditory means are always affected. During the night when the new SCP-XXXX-01 is afflicted, SCP-XXXX will appear at the foot of their bed, or resting place, and the previous SCP-XXXX-01 disappears. This disappearance has proven to be completely impossible to record in any means and all recordings of the previous SCP-XXXX-01 become devoid of its presence. SCP-XXXX-01 simply ceases to exist. If SCP-XXXX-01 dies through any means, then SCP-XXXX afflicts a random host which can be anywhere in the world at the time. SCP-XXXX can afflict other anomalies if they have conscious thought and have the ability to dream.

Test Log 1
Date: █/██/██
Test Subject: Level D Staff, Subject 1

Procedure: The subject was exposed to SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-01 and monitored with visual and audio devices. SCP-XXXX-01’s lips moved though no sound was heard in the recording or by those currently monitoring the audio. It seems however that the subject heard what was said and was obviously distressed by it.

Results: When asked to relay what was said, test subject 1 would not comply. Later that night SCP-XXXX-01 disappeared with no trace and SCP-XXXX was found at the foot of subject 1’s bed. The subject was tossing and turning, and occasionally yelling out as if in pain. SCP-XXXX and the subject were placed back in SCP-XXXX’s cell. It is noted that the subject could not be awakened until 6:00 AM. The subject would not speak of what he apparently dreamed of and quickly slipped into depression, talking very little, and attempting to sleep as little as possible.

Test Log 2
Date:
Test Subject: Subject 2
Procedure: Subject 2 was exposed to a picture of SCP-XXXX to test if records of the SCP could allow it’s transmission.

Results: The subject did not respond in an adverse manner and was not affected later in the night.

Test Log 3
Date:
Test Subject: Subject 3
Procedure: Subject 3 was exposed to SCP-XXXX in the same manner as Subject 2.
Results: Unlike Subject 2, Subject 3 began to appear immediately uncomfortable, and broke out into a cold sweat. He was escorted to a testing chamber with a bed at 7:00 PM, though narcotics had to be administered, as he was adverse to falling asleep. As soon as he passed into REM sleep, he began to twitch slightly. This soon escalated to thrashing and screaming. He was moved to SCP-XXXX’s cell at 9:00 PM and awoke precisely at 6:00 AM. He quickly moved to the base of the bed and before staff could intervene, slammed his neck onto a bedpost, exactly 1.5 inches in diameter, effectively impaling himself. SCP-XXXX disappeared and reappeared in the city of [DATA REDACTED]. The book took on an approximated 40 hosts before it was successfully contained while bound to a member of the containment squad. SCP-XXXX’s cell is now padded, and any instances of SCP-XXXX-01 that display suicidal intentions are immediately restrained.
The results of this test were carefully analyzed, and, after inspectingSubject 3’s file as D-Class personal, it was discovered that he was mentally unstable, and, after a quick investigation, that subject 2 was not. Dr ██████ also noted that
many past instances of SCP-XXXX-01 had been admitted to a mental hospital at some point in their lives, or had been reported as strange, or "not quite right in the head” as the neighbor of one of the victims claimed during an interview. All mentally unstable staff were quickly removed from site ██.
Test Log 5
Date ██/█/██
Test Subject: anomalous humanoid, subject 5
Procedure 1: The subject was exposed to SCP-XXXX-01, and SCP-XXXX-01 immediately conveyed something to the other anomaly, as he had in previous tests.
Results 1: The anomaly was afflicted in much the same way as the human tests subjects.
Procedure 2: A new subject was exposed to SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-01. The anomaly SCP-XXXX-01 quickly said his message and then went silent. Just as in other cases, SCP-XXXX was transferred and the anomalous SCP-XXXX-01 disappeared. This is being considered as a way of disposing of anomalies that cannot be contained or destroyed by normal methods.
