SCP-XXXX, mid-emergence

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be destroyed by Foundation naval assets on sight. Naval Task Force Epsilon-06 “Storm Gulls” are to continually monitor SCP-XXXX's zone of emergence and nearby shipping lane radio traffic for indications of SCP-XXXX activity. Once sighting is confirmed, Epsilon-06 will track SCP-XXXX and provide guidance allowing for its neutralization by NTF Omega-19 “Dire Straits” via whatever means deemed most efficient.

NTF Sigma-58 “Bottomfeeders” will maintain disinformation initiative XXXX-PHYCODURUS, which includes redirection of civilian water traffic from SCP-XXXX's zone of emergence, media blackout, and attribution of resultant naval sorties to USN weapons testing.

Description: SCP-XXXX is the wreck of the SS Borealis, a derelict ocean liner previously run aground on a sandbar off the coast of Point Loma, California, United States of America in 1994.

SCP-XXXX exhibits actively aggressive and predatory behavior, seeking to attack and destroy any oceangoing vessel it encounters. This is accomplished via ramming and the use of SCP-XXXX-01.

SCP-XXXX-01 is a semi-fluid, malleable, highly plastic substance contained within SCP-XXXX's interior. It is black-purple in coloration and exhibits a significant degree of autonomous motility, being able to form structurally stable tendrils as long as 200 meters. When SCP-XXXX is made aware of an oceangoing vessel, it will typically incapacitate it via ramming, then extrude dozens to hundreds of SCP-XXXX-01 tendrils from the various apertures in its hull and superstructure, which it will then use to physically tear the vessel into pieces. Appendages formed from SCP-XXXX-01 exhibit considerable physical strength and durability, and are resistant, but not immune to, conventional ballistic and explosive weaponry.

Upon the forceful dismantling of another vessel, SCP-XXXX will then locate and seize all human occupants, subsuming them into its mass.

SCP-XXXX will attempt to use SCP-XXXX-01 to defend itself from attack, typically by forming barriers to shield itself while it retreats. Sustained bombardment will render SCP-XXXX-01 inactive, whereupon the remainder of the vessel can be easily destroyed and sunk. However, after a period of time varying between the shortest recorded of 3 days, 4 hours and the longest of approximately three months, SCP-XXXX will reemerge within a 5 kilometer radius of the location of its original stranding, apparently undamaged. The mechanism responsible for this is not currently understood.

SCP-XXXX will, at irregular intervals, emit audio broadcasts both via radio and its main deck loudspeaker system. These are transmitted by a male voice of indeterminate age, are generally incoherent and have to date offered little insight into SCP-XXXX's origin, makeup, or purpose. Example follows.

Date: 27 November, 2011
Footage captured by Epsilon-06 reconnaissance aircraft during SCP-XXXX preliminary containment sortie approximately 15 kilometers from California coastline. SCP-XXXX sighting reported by Crowley Maritime towing vessel Mary Celeste.

(SCP-XXXX changes path to a direct collision course with the Mary Celeste, then begins broadcasting from its loudspeakers.)

SCP-XXXX: “Friends! Romans! Countrymen! Bastards!

(A sound of cheering comes from SCP-XXXX, estimated to be produced by roughly 500 voices. This sound does not come from SCP-XXXX's loudspeakers.)

SCP-XXXX: “Imagine! Imagine what it is to tear! To slake your throats with the exhalations of a dying age! It's hot, it's swollen, and it longs to feel the warp of your innards! See the deliberation of the hog and think about what you can do to make it die!”

(More cheers. The Mary Celeste attempts to adjust its course, but SCP-XXXX compensates.)

SCP-XXXX: “I can hear their bones grinding together and I want to know what that feels like! Don't you?!

(The multitude of voices responds “Yes!” in unison.)

SCP-XXXX: “Murder is just senseless destruction! But thievery validates the starving! What a glorious day it is to love and be found wanting! We are but worms and lions all! We have never known the touch of sleep! O happy God, ascend and rape us apart!

(SCP-XXXX crashes into the center of the Mary Celeste's starboard gunwale, inflicting critical damage to its hull. The sound of cheering is heard. The Mary Celeste's crew begins to abandon ship. Viscous, liquid SCP-XXXX-01 begins to pour from apertures and breaches in SCP-XXXX's hull.)

SCP-XXXX: “This is not a drill! The meat of your bodies is not as warm as you think it is! IT IS POSSIBLE TO BREATHE A KNIFE IF YOU PUT YOUR BACK INTO IT. THERE IS NO REALITY IN WHICH THIS IS NOT HAPPENING TO YOU. WE CAN TASTE THE INSIDE OF YOUR EYES."

(Hundreds of SCP-XXXX-01 tendrils erupt from SCP-XXXX's portholes, scuppers, deckplates, and exhaust stacks, and begin to engulf the Mary Celeste while pulling its crew out of the water and into the air.)

SCP-XXXX: “CAN YOU HEAR US NOW? OUR CORPSES ARE SKINLESS AND STILL FEEL PAIN! YOU'RE GOING TO FUCKING HATE IT!”

(SCP-XXXX uses its tendrils to lift the Mary Celeste entirely out of the water, and raises it into the air directly above SCP-XXXX's centerline. The SCP-XXXX-01 mass congeals around the vessel's hull, then wrenches powerfully, tearing the ship in half.)

SCP-XXXX: “-HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-”

(SCP-XXXX and the wreckage and crew of the Mary Celeste then submerge in 0.3 seconds, causing a geyser of water approximately 100 meters high to erupt from the surface. Visual contact lost.)
