Description: SCP-XXXX is a deteriorating book dated at 2020 years of age. The pages are specifically made of papyrus, while the cover is made of a rigid unidentified material and depicts Arabic letters, translated to 'One Thousand Mara1'. The writing on the inside is written in classical Naskh Arabic, and tells each of the stories from the One Thousand and One Nights. However, halfway through, it reads an untranslatable a blend of ancient Mongolian, Sumerian, and Indian languages respectively.

The anomalous properties of SCP-XXXX manifest in a cognitohazard that affects any sapient entity that reads it. These effects last an upwards of 1 minute. The effects have been categorized into 3 phases. All readers are categorized as the current instance of SCP-XXXX-1. No more than 2 instances may exist at one time. The symptoms are as follows:

1. 1-4 seconds; the neurological state of the brain is quickly changed. SCP-XXXX-1 is temporarily confused and put in a state where all primary senses cease to function properly. During this time, subjects have reported seeing a blood red color in place of their ordinary vision, and hearing incomprehensible whispering
2. approx. 5- 40 seconds; SCP-XXXX-1 ceases all higher-level thinking, and starts chanting "The devil, the mother within." Over and over until forty seconds have passed. Subject does not breathe or maintain a pulse during this time.
3. 41-60 seconds; SCP-XXXX-1 starts returning to their original neurological functions. Subject has complete memory of this event, and typically rushes into a panicked state if they were not aware of the effects beforehand.

After the event has concluded, SCP-XXXX's anomalous abilities will no longer affect SCP-XXXX-1. The effects will, however, transfer to any new readers, causing the listed symptoms. The physical symptoms however, may include migraines, aneurisms in various locations, intracranial hemorrhages, seizures, and shock.

Discovery: SCP-XXXX was discovered in a library in the city Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on 2/15/1989. Local reports claimed that various people started acting strange in a specific portion of the facility. The following week, a member of Foundation personnel disguised as a common patron investigated the entire section over the course of several months as the Foundation was not aware which book was causing the anomaly. After 7 months of searching, SCP-XXXX was finally discovered, and the rest of the publications were returned.
