Object Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-#### is to be surrounded by a chain-link fence 2 metres tall, topped with barbed wire. There are to be security cameras monitoring the fence. Anyone observed entering SCP-### is to be apprehended and interviewed as soon as possible after re-emergence, with amnestics issued as appropriate.

Currently, entry to SCP-#### is restricted to D-Class personnel for experimental purposes only, and no subjects with recording equipment are to be used.

Description: SCP-#### is a pond approximately 3 metres by 5 metres, situated in ███████, USA. It's only visible anomalous property is that its water is incredibly dark, making it impossible to judge its depth, although chemical analysis has confirmed it to be ordinary water.

Upon entry to the pond, it will appear to be rather deep, although, due to the murkiness of the water, visibility is restricted to ~30 centimetres. upon swimming downward, accounts state that the subject enters a round passage, ~1 metre in diameter. Upon entry to this tunnel, subjects will report no shortness of breath, although, when questioned, cannot ever remember physically breathing. Testing into this effect is ongoing. The length of this passage varies randomly, and all subjects experience a compulsion to reach the bottom of it.

Upon reaching the bottom of SCP-####, they will encounter an entity known as SCP-####-1. This entity varies from person to person, with the only constant features being that it is a humanoid face, without eyes and secreting a thick black fluid from its eye sockets. Other reported features vary from heavily decayed flesh, to extremely sharp fangs, to a missing jawbone, to, in one case, [REDACTED]. This entity always leads to feelings of intense fear and panic in subjects, although whether this is an anomalous effect of SCP-####-1 or purely due to its disturbing nature is unknown.

If the subject has some event in their past that they feel guilty about and is currently unresolved, SCP-####-1 will speak to them about it, with voices varying with seemingly randomly. Reported voices have included young children, elderly men and, in one case, a previous test subject. The entity will speak about this event, often exaggerating details to increase feelings of guilt felt by the subject.

Upon emergence from the pond, subjects will have changed physically to match how much time they have experienced down there, although for anyone on the surface, they will only appear to have been submerged for 1-10 seconds. Upon re-emergence, subject will be in a state of panic, which can be treated with standard calming drugs. Subjects who have not been spoken to by SCP-####-1 will experience mental trauma, sometimes leading to suicidal tendencies. Subjects who have been spoken to by SCP-####-1 will, alongside this trauma, experience a compulsion to make amends for the event which they are harbouring feelings of guilt about. This varies from person to person, with previous responses including religious confession or conversion, writing a letter of apology to one of the involved parties in the event, to sending of money or other material possessions to one of the involved parties. These responses vary in extremity based on the event. Upon the subject feeling that they have made amends, the mental trauma will cease. This compulsion can be treated with amnestics.

Addendum 1: So far, we have sent down 5 D-Class personnel with recording equipment, audio, visual, or otherwise. 2 of them have not emerged at all, and are presumed dead, 2 were found in states of advanced decay, without their recording devices, and 1's head was found, with no trace of the torso or the recording equipment. As such, I think we can figure out that whatever SCP-####-1 is, it doesn't want to be recorded, so we should probably stop trying, as it's evidently not going to get us anywhere.-Dr ██████

Addendum 2-Recovery Log: On ██/██/19██, ██████ ██████, a local boy of 12, was dared by 2 friends, ███████ ███ and ██ ██████████ to enter SCP-####, swim to the bottom, and touch the bottom before re-emerging. Upon emerging after approximately 7 seconds, ██████ was experiencing symptoms of minor hypothermia, had traces of water in his lungs and was babbling and sobbing. ███ contacted local police, who conducted an interview with ██████, transcribed below:

Note: At this point, ██████ had been treated for his hypothermia and the water in his lungs and had calmed down significantly
Inspector █████: So, Mr ██████, please describe what you saw when you swam in the pond.
██████: I-I started swimming down, and it was really dark and cold, and it got narrow, and I kept swimming and swimming for about 5 minutes without reaching the bottom.
Inspector █████: You didn't think to swim back up?
██████: I-I- No. I never even considered that.
Inspector █████: I see. Carry on.
██████: So, after about 5 minutes, my feet touched the bottom, it felt like mud, and by now I really needed to breathe. I was just gonna swim back up when I- I saw- At this point ██████ began sobbing I-It was a face. I-It was really pale, and it had no eyes. A-And there was black- stuff coming from where its eyes should've been. A-And I- ██████ broke down and was unable to answer further questions.

Logs from this time indicate that local police believed that SCP-####-1 was a corpse that had been dumped in the lake at this point, and thus dispatched a diver to retrieve the cadaver. It's recorded that upon the diver's emergence, he was reported to scream 'IT TALKED'[sic] and seize the sidearm of another officer, which he used to shoot himself in the head. It was at this point that an agent embedded in the local police force alerted the Foundation and current containment procedures were established.
