Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Safe

WARNING: Due to Incident-CODENAME:██████ on ██/█/20██, under no circumstances are SCP-XXXX-X subjects to be administered amnestics after contact with SCP-XXXX. If an instance of SCP-XXXX-X is given amnestics they are to be held indefinitely in Containment Site 55-B with all SCP Organization status and affiliated positions revoked or, pending majority vote of the O5 Council, use of [DATA EXPUNGED] on SCP-XXXX-X.

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be contained at Site 67 in a cylindrical reinforced glass containment cell with a diameter of 20cm and a height of 30cm. The base of the cell is made of steel. The cell sits on a steel pedestal 1.5m tall and 50cm wide with a 500kg holding force electromagnet. This steel pedestal is located in the center of a 10m x 10m room.

SCP-XXXX is intangible and immobile but responsive to being “touched”, so all precautions are meant to limit interaction with the object rather than containment of SCP-XXXX itself. In the event that SCP-XXXX is “touched”, containment of the subject now known as SCP-XXXX-A is to take place in SCP-XXXX’s containment room. SCP-XXXX-A is to be restrained in a bed designed to lock the subjects head into place on top of the steel pedestal. The subject will be restrained until awakening from sleep, wherein upon awakening they are to be quickly removed from the pedestal. SCP-XXXX will be left above the steel pedestal approximately where the center of SCP-XXXX-X’s brain was located upon awakening. The containment cell will be put in place to enclose SCP-XXXX with the electromagnet subsequently switched on. Two armed guards are to guard SCP-XXXX. Removal of the containment cell from the pedestal is not permitted without majority approval by the O5 council.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a two-dimensional opaque black ring 5cm in diameter on the outer edge and 4cm in diameter on the inner edge. SCP-XXXX appears to have one side, which is always facing it’s observer. Multiple researchers positioned around the object report seeing the ring as if it were facing them individually. Looking at SCP-XXXX from any angle, through camera feed, or through photography produces the same effect. Dr. ████████ has described the feeling as similar to looking into a black hole, creating a sense of unease or dread. Various site staff remark SCP-XXXX as being similar to a two-dimensional object in a three-dimensional video game that always faces the player.

SCP-XXXX does not interact with known forms of matter, but “responds” to contact with sapient beings with the exception of SCP-███ for unknown reasons. SCP-XXXX itself does not appear sapient. When SCP-XXXX-X falls asleep they will report having unusually vivid and storied dreams. Upon awakening, SCP-XXXX-X will express dissociative memory, often conflating dream experiences with reality and expressing a confused sense of time. These symptoms will disappear approximately 30 minutes after waking up.

Due to Incident-283-E it is known that multiple subjects can fall victim to the effects of SCP-XXXX at a time, all experiencing the following confusion and dissociation. The method by which SCP-XXXX selects an instance of SCP-XXXX-X to manifest in appears random. No unusual effects have been reported in victims after 24 hours, with instances of SCP-XXXX-X deemed safe for removal of anomalous label.

Due to Incident-283-H it is required that all who have interacted with SCP-XXXX retain their label as SCP-XXXX-X indefinitely. Subjects are to be labeled as immune to amnestics, or “Amnesio-Hazardous” on identification and uniforms. Class-D amnestics were administered to D-Class Personnel ████ to no effect, after successful relocation of SCP-XXXX. D-████ retained all knowledge of interaction with SCP-XXXX with repeated doses of amnestics Class-A, Class-C, and Class-D. Additionally, memory confusion and dissociation remained permanent, with D-████ having altered memories, believing herself to be O3 personnel. See interview log Report-Incident-283-H for details.

Due to the nature of SCP-XXXX, further testing is forbidden due to the danger inherent in the possibility of high-level personnel acquiring false memories or forgetting real memories. In the wrong set of circumstances, this could lead to inadequate response towards containment breach or council members making decisions based on false information. SCP-XXXX is classified as “safe” only because it is easy to contain when it it’s cell, but it’s effects should not be underestimated. The possibility of personnel being immune to amnestics is to be avoided as much as possible.
