Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: SCP-XXXX is to be hung on a wall in a basic containment room. Personnel entering the room containing SCP-XXXX must be Level 2 or higher. At no time are personnel permitted to insert a photo in SCP-XXXX's frame, unless testing is taking place.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a picture frame composed of bronze with a glass covering. It is about 20 centimeters in length and 15 centimeters in width. Initially, it does not contain any photograph in it. If a subject were to put any photograph into the frame, the memory portrayed by the photograph would cause them to wish they could return to that particular moment in that time and place. Eventually, said subject's desire would become too strong for them to respond to constructively, and their mental state would decline. The process related to the viewing of the photograph held by SCP-XXXX is divided into four (4) stages.
Stage I: After inserting the photograph, the subject will view it, wishing they could be situated in that moment at that time. No harmful incidents occur during stage one.
Stage II: After forty-eight hours have passed since stage one, the subject will begin to feel unhappy with their current life, and begin to have negative thoughts about themselves. Their desire to revisit the past will get more desperate.
Stage III: After seventy-two hours since stage two, the subject will be absolutely unsatisfied with who they are. The memory portrayed by the photograph will be the only thing on their mind. The subject will be on the verge of depression.
Stage IV: After seventy-two hours since stage three, the subject will completely break down. Their desire for the memory will be too strong for them to cope with. Stage IV May or may not include extreme depression, paranoia, suicide, attempted suicide, and being unable to think of anything but the memory portrayed by SCP-XXXX, which usually leads staying in one place, immobile, doing nothing.
The whole process takes one hundred ninety-two (192) hours, or eight (8) days.
Addendum XXXX-01: SCP-XXXX was recovered in Birkirkara, Malta, in the house of a woman named ████████████. In it, she had placed a picture of the day her sister was born. After several reports that she had not come out of her house in days, a police investigation took place in her home. She was taken to her local police station to be interviewed. According to reports, she had informed them of her will to relive her past memories. A neuropsychological evaluation revealed she was being affected by depression and an odd chemistry which almost completely omitted her ability to focus.
The SCP Foundation became involved when a man of unknown origin claimed to have been the one who transferred it to her. He reported having similar symptoms. According to his claim, the will to relive the past had left once it was in the possession of ████████████. Upon being informed of this, the Foundation retrieved the object for testing.
Once SCP-XXXX was recovered from Birkirkara, the frame was tested on a subject, D-942. D-942 chose to insert a photograph of his graduation from [DATA EXPUNGED]. This study revealed the anomaly of the object. The time intervals were recorded.
SCP-XXXX was tested once more on another subject, D-1067. This study proved there to be specific time intervals between the four stages, since they matched those of D-942.
