Item #: SCP-XXXX
Object Class: Safe
Special Containment Procedures: A perimeter fence is to be maintained around the primary structure of SCP-XXXX at a distance of one-hundred (100) meters at all times for observational purposes. Groups of no less than four (4) armed personnel are to patrol the main structure at least once every three (3) hours during ‘Phase 1’ times, in case of a ‘Phase 2’ incident.
Following Incident XXXX-2a-7 and the materialization of SCP-XXXX-1b-01 and 02, all personnel within the primary structure of SCP-XXXX are to vacate the premises via the nearest available exit point if a 'Phase 2' incident is confirmed to be in progress.
Description: SCP-XXXX is a manor house in ████████, England; formerly owned by the late Mr. ████████, prior to his death on ██/██/2003. The manor complex is made up of one (1) primary structure, as well as a number of smaller servant and storage structures matching those associated with manor houses dating prior to the start of the 20th century (though none of these external structures have been shown to be anomalous, observation is ongoing). The primary structure’s internal layout is moderately normal for a building of its size, and the acquisition of its construction plans has confirmed that there are no apparent dimensional anomalies or discrepancies present within it.
SCP-XXXX's existence was made known to the Foundation in ██/██/2004 following reports of anomalous activity made by the late Mr. ████████'s daughter (a known Foundation informant), who was attempting to renovate and sell the manor house. Foundation agents then intervened and seized the estate under the guise of an organisation wishing to attempt to restore the manor, converting it into what is now known as Site-██.
In it’s passive state (‘Phase 0’), SCP-XXXX exhibits almost no anomalous properties of any nature. Routine scanning has, however, brought to light the presence of a concentrated field of non-harmful background radiation similar to that found in [REDACTED]. It has also been noted that, during this time, the doors to the study area on the second floor remain locked, regardless of the state they were left in beforehand. All attempts at placing recording equipment within this area during other times have resulted in the complete failure of said equipment upon passage into 'Phase 0'. Personnel placed inside this room prior to 'Phase 0' for observation during it have noted that there is nothing anomalous occurs inside this room during the allotted time.1
SCP-XXXX is known to exhibit two (2) different phases of activity beyond the passive state.
The first phase (dubbed as ‘Phase 1’, for reference purposes) occurs periodically within the primary structure of the manor. The timing of ‘Phase 1’ varies depending on the time of year, but its starting and ending points always coincide with the local time definitions of dusk and dawn respectively each night. During this time, the second floor study will become unlocked, though no known anomalous effect will occur within it for the duration of the night. Additionally, during this time, the manifestation of a varying number of instances of SCP-XXXX-1 occurs. The lowest number of recorded instances in one night of 'Phase 1' is fourteen (14), whilst the highest recorded number is thirty-two (32). SCP-XXXX-1 instances are, by appearance, members of the feline species (though the exact breed varies from instance to instance, all have been noted to have consistently black fur). All instances have been known to exhibit abnormal levels of luminescence in their optical structure despite the lack of any notable external light source.
Instances of SCP-XXXX-1 had not exhibited any hostile action prior to Incident XXXX-2a-7, and continue to remain in a passive position wherever they may be located, for the most part. They have, however, been known to observe personnel without any kind of discernible pattern. Attempts at extraction of SCP-XXXX-1 instances had been met with majority success, though all retrieved instances de-materialized at dawn despite removal from the main structure. See Report XXXX-1a for details.2
Following Incident XXXX-2a-7, all attempts to acquire SCP-XXXX-1 instances, barring two (2), have been met with repeated failure (see Incident Report XXXX-2a for further detail on the believed reasoning), with all iterations showing strong hostility towards personnel attempting to detain them. Also following this incident, some larger species of feline have been spotted on rare occasions.
The second phase ('Phase 2'), noted to be the most active phase in terms of background radiation, occurs at mostly random intervals. All instances of this phase, barring one (1) (see Incident XXXX-2a-7), have occurred during night hours, replacing 'Phase 1' for the duration of that night. Though it has been deduced to happen at any time between five (5) and seven (7) times per calender year, it is noted to occur consistently on the night prior to the anniversary of the death of Mr. ████████. During this time, the number of SCP-XXXX-1 instances drops to anything between three (3) and five (5), displaying less variety in breed, with reports noting them all to be within the 'long-haired' branch of the feline genus. During this time, all SCP-XXXX-1 instances will enter a form of 'patrol', in which they will take a random path between various rooms in the house for around 2 hours following dusk, before collecting inside the second floor study, which, as in 'Phase 1', remains unlocked for the duration of the night. If no individual enters the study for the length of this time, all present instances will de-materialize as per 'Phase 1' and activity will return to normal until the next 'Phase 2' occurrence. If someone enters the room during this time, all SCP-XXXX-1 instances will fixate on them visually for the length of their stay within the room.
Following Incident XXXX-2a-7, all attempts to approach or detain an SCP-XXXX-1 instance within a 'Phase 2' period have been met with absolute hostility to the point of attack by all present instances on the individual(s) in question.
