XndrK's Sandbox

This is XndrK's sandbox, which is exactly what it says on the tin. This is the place for me to test out wiki syntax and post my drafts (which will be in this giant tab section below).

Item #: SCP-XXXX

Object Class: Keter

Special Containment Procedures: : A minimum of twenty (20) and a maximum of one hundred (100) spores of SCP-XXXX are to be kept in a Level 4 biohazard freezer at Site-38. Only Level 4 or higher personnel are authorized to use SCP-XXXX for experiments.

All experiments with SCP-XXXX are to be conducted in an air- and watertight chamber fitted with automated sterilization gates. All personnel involved in said experiments must wear full-body biohazard gear for the entirety of the experiment. All created instances of SCP-XXXX-1 must be incinerated according to Class 4 biohazard procedures.

SCP-XXXX-A is to be kept in a safe at Site-38. Level 2 or higher personnel are authorized to handle SCP-XXXX-A in experiments. SCP-XXXX-A is to be cleaned before returning to storage by standard procedures. SCP-XXXX-B and -C are to be handled according to standard anomalous document handling procedures.

MTF Beta-7 (“Maz Hatters”) and MTF Rho-1 (“The Professors”) are jointly assigned to the extermination of extant SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 instances, as well as guarding the known environment of SCP-XXXX under the guise of a nature preserve. Any SCP-XXXX and SCP-XXXX-1 instances found outside of testing or storage by the Foundation are to be destroyed on-site according to Class 4 biohazard procedures.

Any personnel exhibiting symptoms of SCP-XXXX infection are to be terminated immediately.

Description: SCP-XXXX is a neuroparasitic fungus similar to those of the genus Ophiocordyceps. Sporangia1 of SCP-XXXX are typically light brown to tan and 2.5 millimeters to 5 centimeters in height, depending on the size of the host. Hyphae2 of SCP-XXXX are highly elastic and resistant to tearing and can withstand temperatures of up to 500º C.

Infection with SCP-XXXX occurs by contact with the bodily fluids of an infected organism or inhalation of SCP-XXXX spores. Approximately thirty minutes following contact,3 Stage 1 commences: SCP-XXXX hyphae intermesh with the mouth and digestive tract of the infected animal (hereafter, SCP-XXXX-1), increasing the elasticity of affected tissues4 as well as acid production in the stomach or equivalent. SCP-XXXX-1 instances in Stage 1 are invariably “hungry” and will ingest between 50 and 150% of their body weight given the opportunity; denied food, 62% of SCP-XXXX-1 instances die of malnutrition before reaching Stage 2.5

Late into Stage 1, SCP-XXXX-1 instances will occasionally ingest other members of their species. The diet of SCP-XXXX-1 instances is otherwise identical to their diet before becoming instances, disregarding the increased volume thereof.

After a period of four to nine days, SCP-XXXX-1 instances will enter Stage 2. SCP-XXXX hyphae will have intermeshed with the brain or primary neural net of the instance; as a result, SCP-XXXX-1 instances in Stage 2 will intentionally place themselves at risk of predation.6 Predation of an SCP-XXXX-1 instance by an organism uninfected with SCP-XXXX results in the organism becoming an SCP-XXXX-1 instance itself.

Stage 2 instances of SCP-XXXX-1 display a preference toward predation by Stage 1 instances; Stage 1 instances prefer preying upon Stage 2 instances given the choice. Should one SCP-XXXX-1 instance ingest another, the two SCP-XXXX colonies will engage in sexual reproduction; spores created as a result will merge with the existing instance of SCP-XXXX.7

Ten to fourteen days after the beginning of Stage 2, living SCP-XXXX-1 instances enter Stage 3. SCP-XXXX-1 instances will seek out and attempt to move to an area of exposed soil or vegetation large enough to lie down upon, neither fleeing nor seeking out predatory species. Should any Stage 3 SCP-XXXX-1 instance contact a sought-out area, it will immediately die of cardiac arrest or other circulatory failure. Sporangia will sprout from the upper surface of the deceased SCP-XXXX-1 instance; spores of SCP-XXXX spread via air and water.

SCP-XXXX-A is a small hollow stainless-steel sphere approximately 25 centimeters in diameter, bisected by a seal of darker metal 1 cm wide, with the words “MISCERE ARTIS ET SCIENTIAE”8 set into the seal. The surface of the sphere is inscribed with the astrological signs for Earth, Saturn and Pluto; this is believed to be a code for use by the intended recipients. Twisting the seal clockwise opens the seal, while twisting it counterclockwise closes it. SCP-XXXX-A is not anomalous, but is believed to be the source of SCP-XXXX; the seal was already unlocked when first discovered and spores were found on its interior when originally examined and cleaned.

The current infection rate for chordates in the current active region of SCP-XXXX is 0.4% at any given time; the rate for insects is currently unknown, but estimated at █ to ██%. Should SCP-XXXX enter the general population, its high infection rate could, according to an estimate by Researcher T███████, cause a WK-class end-of-humanity scenario in approximately 240 days.

Research into a chemical disabling agent for SCP-XXXX is ongoing and being led by Senior Researcher D████.

History: SCP-XXXX was discovered on ██/██/20██ in a wooded area 4.6 km southwest of [REDACTED], Tennessee, after reports of “suicidal rabbits” and “devil coyotes” surfaced among the local community. Six Foundation Agents were assigned to search the woods for any anomalous items related to the reports; after recovery of SCP-XXXX-A, an outbreak of SCP-XXXX occurred at Site-38, resulting in ██ casualties.

Addendum XXXX.1: Update

On ██/██/20██, a document (later given the designation SCP-XXXX-B) was discovered six (6) meters from the discovery site of SCP-XXXX-A, written in the dialect of Latin used by Alexylva University. A heavy rain had occurred the night before, causing much of the ink to run from the document and data to be lost. The document below is a translation of what remains.

Addendum XXXX.2: Update

On ██/██/20██, another document was discovered at the same location as SCP-XXXX-B; it has been given the provisional designation SCP-XXXX-C. The translation is given below.
